You claiming it will wear and that its vapourware is funny, its not new start up company, that kind of company can make multiple working products, and they just did in prototype stage. Considering wearing and breaking it by use will not happen is the basic what they Got to ensure before even making prototype, you are not the only one who cares.
Or just wait for next cat phone, with phone trend design going foldable, you have just to wait no need to be pessimistic here.

If I drop my pretty sturdy and very scratch resistant phone on a hard surface it might break, therefore I shall buy a thin, unprotected plastic device for 2,500 bucks. Because I know that will definitely break in weeks from simple wear and tear.
Mark my words. The Huawei will not be available in ANY real stores. Because it is a vapourware first generation prototype.

Despite that we use bigger and bigger screens, where are big screen haters now?
You fear that screen will not survive, but if you pay so much money, paying for insurance is nothing. And that is without the case most people use even on entry level phones, dare to use mateX without one...

I do not have any issue with fold-in per se but the way its implemented in the Samsungs Fold make it a worst design than Huaweis Mate X in my opinion. It has two issues.
It's too thick, looks just like to smartphones glued together and that it does not fold completely make even worse.
Secondly, perhaps my main issue is that the user experience of the Fold when its in the folded position is like going back many years, with its small screen and huge bezels. I do not want to scarify the smartphone experience just to be able to use it as a small tablet.
Mate X, while not being perfect with its more unprotected screen will have the user experience of a modern smartphone when folded and it folds completely and is not as thick.
I won't buy any of these first generations foldeble phones but I think Huawei has done a better job showing something futuristic. And pretty much every person from the press that have seen them seem to think so going by Anandtech roundup.

Delic, 10 Mar 2019Buy a case, problem solved. Just like you would do with fol... moreThis adds more problem
if it is soft protector than it is not beautiful and if it is hard case than you can't use it on top of screen(cause of two thing:1-the screen folds 2-it is touch screen) now you might come up with a case which phone sites in it and than you can take it out and use it(just like what bb send out with his p998X series) but than it is not by much different! you might drop the device in taking out situation!
really nothing will improve in term of protection if you add a case to a really bad design!
also samsung design is not without it's flows!
if the phone by mistake be in pressure situation it would easily break the joint of two different part!

All folding devices are nowhere near where they should be to become relevant.
Folding out is exposing the screen, even if it allows for a thiner device, and
folding in results in a device bulky as f... Both of them will result in more bulkiness with a protective case.
For what it is now, I'd rather have a normal smartphone, and a tablet or laptop for serious work in my backpack. None of the folding solutions offer anything relevant to actually need them at the moment.

Here's the real fact: Huawei will not dare to sell their phone on any real markets. Because they know it's a terrible design with an unprotected folding plastic screen at 2,500 bucks. It's there as a weak shout for attention when Samsung is actually releasing a phone that works.

Considering aging of pixels, there will be none if screen saver applied, also back screen of mateX is way better than that small one on samsung fold, so what reason there is to not like it. Lastly, you wont hold to it for so long that you will care, with phone tech changing at half year speed, not to forget you can get replacement till 2 years come.
Considering all this and that you get better cameras(because of thickness), really no point arguing... forget notch.

Well, it's the first generation. Personally I like the design line of the Fold, but it lacks :
- SD card slot
- 3.5mm jack
- the front display is too small
So far the S10+ or Xperia 1 sound more appealing to me than the Fold.
I'll wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation to come out. Hopefully they will add those features.

Isn't the "vertical fold" also a "fold-in"? Also, out of those two I think the first one is the best, cause it negates the major problem with big sized phones - massive height.

I really cannot imagine what would happen to that Huawei's screen if it's been dropped. At least with Samsung, there's not much to worry about since there is no screen at the back and the other display is folded inside the phone. The Huawei may look nicer than the Samsung, but it's definitely not the one I will buy.
