Utter stupidity!! I'm fully with Apple here... its their APP store, their rules, why should they not take a cut on other companies gaining custom via their devices and app store.... that's how business works right.... you have to pay advertising fees and all that jazz! Unfair practices what a load of cr@@! As for Apple only allowing people to pay via their own payment system... again why not you are using and APPLE DEIVCE!! Apple are huge on security, and allowing anything else leaves doors open for all sorts of issues! Why would apple make it easier for people to shy away from their own subscriptions in favor of their competitors..... that's like Arsenal letting spurs score with open goals on purpose! its laughable.

Lol, typical Apple fashion, instead of trying to make their products better than competition, they just cheating their way through using unfair advantage of their platform

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2019"Spotify is not suing for money. Instead, the company is as... moreSpotify already enjoys free hosting and distribution of their app, and in the case of savvy customers, no-commission subscriptions via their other sales channels. Now they don't want to contribute anything at all. How does Spotify know 30% of Apple Music's charges don't already go towards App Store maintenance and development?

        Work-arounds:
Could Spotify not add text to the top of their in-app purchase screen to the effect of "Visit Spotify.com to learn how to save up to 30% on your subscription"?

Hell, just put an ad panel in the app, but maintain control of the ad service. Only serve their "Save 30% on Spotify" ad that links to the subscription website - unless the request comes from an IP range controlled by Apple, in which case serve an album release ad.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2019I think he was talking about developers who work for Apple.... moreYes you are correct i am referring to the developers who work for apple and cost of running a server for app store is not free. And i think it is only reasonable that they have to charge who wants to use app store since they work hard for it to achieve what it is now.

If people dont want to spend to use their store then its simple remove the app on apple's app store.
Then again there is no such thing as free in this world.

The App store has always had the charge, and Spotify has been around a lot longer than Apple music. I'm not sure what they are arguing for, Apple to raise it's own prices 30% and make more profit from it?

Now that I call a fair lawsuit. I hope they win and force some changes in that regard. Google is no better though and last years is pushing more or less the same crap to Google play guidelines.

I don't think we can blame Apple here. Similar practices led to Fortnite not being available on Play Store. It is similar to what Android fans said when Google was sued in EU, "it is their OS".

Wanny, 14 Mar 2019They are not really saying that tax is high. The main conce... morethe complaint is that apple only allows subscription payment through the spotify app itself without going through app store payment system, which taxes spotify 30% of the payment. our point is this is exactly the same thing with the google play store- making in-app purchase such as subscription to spotify goes through google payment system and is taxed the same thing- 30%. additionally, spotify is complaining that its direct competitor- apple music, does not have to pay this "apple tax", which is indeed unfair. however, it is the same thing with google's own music streaming apps- google play music and youtube music- these do not have to pay "google tax". so, spotify have to direct its premium subscribers to pay their subscriptions through their website. please be informed that subscription payment for spotify through the app itself is not available on both android and ios. so, really, the question to spotify is why single out apple when they are at disadvantage as well with google? is it because apple music is more of a threat than google play music and youtube music combined? don't get me wrong- i love spotify and have been a premium subscriber for 6 years now; i hate apple for its greed; i love google for the gift of open platform that is android; however, spotify has to be fair as well by looping in google into the complaint.

This is where company no longer innovate and all sorts of measures are implemented to ensure they earn more and more profits . WellThere is nothing with that, but when greed is getting bigger and bigger that it would explode one day .
