27 March 2019
This is over another Qualcomm patent. The decision isn't final, but the judge will recommend a cease and desist order against Apple.

Just wanted to correct part of this article. The iPhone XS uses Intel modems for Verizon and Sprint as it does for all carriers so it would affect those users to an extant as well.

Refusing to license their standards essential patents unless you also buy its chips is extortion, and violates the FRAND terms they agreed to when submitting them for inclusion.

Walter C. Dornez, 27 Mar 2019Exactly. Just go with a deal in which Apple uses Qualcomm f... moreNo, that's not how it works. Qualcomm (and many other companies) own Standard Essential Patents. Standardization organizations working on these standards (such as 2G, 3G, LTE, etc.) require companies, whose IP is not becoming essential part of the standard, to license it under "Fair, Reasonable, and Non-discriminatory (FRAND)" terms.
Here is what Qualcomm gets for their IP on each phone sale:
                        https://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/examples-of-royalties-for-smartphone-price-points.pdf
The key term here is "Non-discriminatory". Qualcomm can't give Apple a "special" deal. First of all Apple is not even their biggest licensee. Nothing warrants a special treatment. If for some reason they do give them a special discount, all other companies would be eligible for the same or similar discount.

Walter C. Dornez, 27 Mar 2019Exactly. Just go with a deal in which Apple uses Qualcomm f... moreYeah, but they stupidly refused, and went for Intel modems instead. This is why I hated Apple in the first place. It's not only their pricing for their products that rages me. It's also the CHOICES that they make that tick me off. Slowing performance for battery WITHOUT telling anybody that? Unbelievable. Removing jacks? Apple did the UNTHINKABLE there. What about them keeping the same design choices for their Macbook keyboards? Wow, I am sorely amazed.

The worst thing is took some one Intelectual Property (IP) and giving to others to make sure the others performance on par with IP owner.. That is Apple and is a fact..

At least Qualcomm did not tear apart the Kirin 980.. and see if its infringing or not..

Maybe they are paying loyalty.. but who knows. But you always go for the most juicy targets.
