[deleted post]This doesn't look good... I hope this helps them make some profit because I really don't want to see Sony leave the smartphone market. They're practically the only brand making phones for those that truly appreciate a high quality design. If they're gone, what am I supposed to buy? All of these other phones look the damn same - pseudo-bezelless design, extravagant back colors, that ugly, horrendous notch (teardrop or not it's disgusting). They're practically made for the pseudo-emo youth...
I loved Sony's Japanese, symmetrical design with true attention-to-detail. Especially the original XZ looked amazing.

All phones with SD810 at that time fail, i remember the only SD810 i have was a G Flex2 and that was fast, no doubt, but, hot at same time, and battery just dissapear with that SoC overheating.
Z5 was the most "beautiful" phone from Sony at that era imo, just the camera placement wasnt the best, i never like Sony cameras at corner.
Since that phone, Sony wasnt a option anymore, cause the make/belive isnt really work for me...from all phones i have the more featureless was from Sony!
i hope to see a Sony phone with IR blaster, a stereo speakers that can blow my mind, a all rounded corners display, maybe wireless charging, and why not a HiFi DAC! - listen to this Sony.
i know Korea and Japan didnt work well, but LG and Sony can came togheter in Mobile and thats maybe - i belive - will make anything abismal for sure. Sony have the know how, LG have the features...just put them togheter.

Let me remind you that all the things manufacturers are bragging today with, like glass backs, waterproofing, AI cameras, fake bokeh, etc., were present on Sony phones years ago. The difference is that, back then, everybody called those things as "stupid gimmicks", while today, 4-5 years later, those things are selling points.

Somehow my Xperia with a 2900 battery has 50% better battery life than my last LG with a 3300 battery. And it was cheaper than the scarce competition when it started selling.

Z5 still had the omnibalance design that came from the original Xperia Z, while the poor design decisions began with copying Lumia and Xiaomi in XZ. Z5 was beautiful, but the chip they used was a complete failure.
SP like all Sony phones before Xperia Z had very poor battery life. I had an Xperia P back then, it had the best design easily, I still can't find a phone that looks better, it also had the most comfortable size, but it was slow and the battery life was awful.
Z3 Compact set a record of battery life, beating the competition by far. I'd say that after becoming market leaders in battery life since Z the main problem for Xperia was the camera, its auto mode sucked big time. And the marketing wasn't good even then (and continued to decline). The failure of Z5 series really got Sony hard, after a couple of years of making bland unoriginal phones they tried to come back with XZ2 series but the market momentum was lost, most people didn't even know about it or didn't care to try or just hated it outright.

See, that's a good example of Sony having poor marketing. It had exactly what you were asking for, but you didn't know about it because they couldn't carry the message.

Well, i know Sony well, and i must say, cut workforce will not be the solution, but this merge into TV and Audio department as one will make difference for sure, cause more divisions togheter make more ideas
Maybe then, Sony will be turning around the design language (finaly) and came with some spetacular and different.
As someone already sayd: Sony have been better with Ericsson until they separate from them, is all falling down, i remember my last and "almost perfect" phone from Sony was Xperia SP, men, that was a machine for good, almost matching the high end Sony in performance and features. My Live with Walkman was also a turn for me, i love that phone even today, a jump from LG L3 to LwW camera was a good perception of quality, the camera is superb at that time...well, good old days Sony Ericsson.
From Xperia Z3 until now, sorry Sony, you cant impress, and that Z5 flop almost makes you turn into the first to fall down, all came down and fault of that square all time models, not so confortable to hold, that half body big bezzels, not so good speakers and not so good camera software.
Remember Exmor-R, remember Walkman branding, that TrackID app?! i want it back, not only the branding but also the quality, cause...you wanna make it easier, simple...but, all people want is a "all the same" old school features and apps you make people know your name for.

Maybe they should just focus on gaining attention in Japan market only first. Just stop global operation for now. Take baby steps. Go back from zero. If you can't beat the Chinese oems just join them. Just copy whatever they doing. Pretty sure it will sell. Bezel less, tear drop notch, pop up camera, high optical zoom, upper midrange chipset from Qualcomm, in display fingerprint sensor, big battery, super fast charger. Just follow this already successful formula Sony might be able to pull it off a little.

Use to samsung galaxy user, after try sony turn out better, fast update, battery no need to replace every year, even 2years still great, ppl just need to try

Cutting workforce is not the solution. Problem lies in thick bezels of Sony mobile phones and their exorbitant price and that led to their downfall. Some people never learn . Seems there is no RD in mobile phone division. What is that srange love for those thick bezels. People pay mpney to look at the display not those ugly thick bezels. Those thick bezels are so ugly that people shied away from them. Samsung changed themselves and released M30,A50 etc with thinnest of bezels in midrange. HTC is another example with thick bezels. Now , they are out of competition.
