Yes! I have not been apple fan and I have never had any iPhone, but this news is SO GREAT, specially current time then all other phone makers say tha people want only HUGE phones, what you cannot use by one hand and cannot carry on your suit pant pocket. Well, seems that I need to buy this good compact iPhone when it is released on 2020.

why is it that very few of you can't write a legible sentence. do you not proof-read what you typed before posting it? do you not know correct sentence structure. it is almost comical to try and read some of these comments. i don't know, maybe english isn't your first language. if that's the case then i can understand but if not then people need to go back to school. lol not trying to make fun of anyone i know my spelling isn't all that great. i was just pointing out that it's hard to read some comments, actually a lot of the comments.

Its really not hard to just make the phone thicker with a headphone jack. Before these phones would come with budget power efficient processors and the interface would lag. Its unlikely now even with such modern and highly developed processors that lag would occur.

If they stop copying and fighting with companies like Qualcomm and Samsung which works for them they finaly can make some profit.
If they stop making phones they can make even more.

I phone lovers will definitely buy it even though its screen is 2" in size and the price is more than $1,000. Because there is an apple symbol on the back of the phone and other people will look into it to evaluate the user.

To all the people saying that the size of 5.42" is the most compact and one-hand user friendly, oh well, that's for you guys who got small hands. Most of the people in this world tends to be taller and bigger than you guys, and obviously have bigger hands in which would help them greatly if they bought a 5.8"-7" devices than getting bezel-less 5.42" smartphone.
I'm staying with older flagships though, cheaper price for a reduced performance but still going strong in day-to-day activities. Gaming experience is not as bad as you would've thought, and light games are running butter smooth too.

optional, 03 Apr 20195.42 is just too small !It's perfect size for the phone, on which you call and receive calls and put it back in the pocket. If you want media and games too, then get larger size device, there are so much options. There is no need to say things like that, we don't need only phablets with 6.5 giant screens. If there is finally smaller device for people that do want it, there is no place for your negativity. Not for you? Move on, nothing to see here.

With bezels = 3 ~ 4 inch (4.7 ~ 4.8 max with software enhancement like reachability or one hand mode)
Without bezel = 4 ~ 5 inch (5.4 ~ 5.8 max with software enhancement)
Anything beyond that needs 2 hands for the avg joe. Things like pull down notifications / press back on the top.
iOS REMOVED reachability on their iPhone X phones.. rendering 5.8 inches to be too large.. At least they still have iPhone 8.. but lacks the 512GB version.
1. You can't carry stuff with one hand.. and fully use the phone in the other hand.
2. You can't hold on to support in bus or trains.. and use with one hand.
3. Bulge in pocket is bigger then the pants'.... very unsightly! Provided you can even pocket it!
4. Bigger screen = more battery drain = more battery capacity needed = larger battery pack needed = more stuff to carry around.

Here are a few things I'd like to point out:
1) 5.42" is NOT small, no matter the A:R
2) There is a STRONG need of small phones in a market overfilled with large phones
3) Manufacturers SHOULD make small phones along with other sizes. Actual small phones akin to the Xperia Compact series of old are very much in demand these days due to lack of options.
That is all.

Anonymous, 03 Apr 2019I blame those keep buying large phones. Market always go fo... moreIt'sa vicious circle, people keep buying phablets because there're just not enough options for small phones.
My phone is dying right now and I'm looking for a compact device (let's assume that anything below 150mm is compact, which it isn't but at least it's not straight forward phablet yet). What options do I have? Galaxy S9/S10/S10e/Huawei P30/iPhone/Google Pixel etc. - flagships with flagship prices I don't want to pay. Xiaomi mi a2 lite/redmi 6/go - low-ends, which in my country cost nearly as much as the new redmi note 7. So I have to choose between paying virtually the same price for this phablet or settling down for a compact device which will have worse power, worse camera and worse battery life. That's why people keep buying those big phones, not because they actually want those monstrosities which barely fit in their pockets.

5.5" phone is perfect size for most people who needs compact phone. Rest of the folks can buy 6-7" phones anyway...
Way to go Apple..
