Counterclockwise: naming things  is hard,  so every new phone is called the "One"

07 April 2019
HTC One, OnePlus One, Android One, Google One, tech companies don't have much imagination when it comes to naming things.

This is an informative article because I had been confused by the naming scheme of every new phone nowadays.

Shanti Dope, 07 Apr 2019Anyone still remember the turning point of Motorola and Son... moreI miss those times.

Sendo X was a beast back then. Friend had it and i was so jealous (probably the only Sendo X in Estonia :-) ). Felt definitely better, faster and cooler than Nokia 6600 i had that time.

I think every brand needs a series name, e,g, Lumia or Xperia and a 2-4 digit number e.g. 520, 70 etc. Sony were close, they could have had the Xperia Z6, M6 but for some reason they switched after about 5 iterations.

Maria, 07 Apr 2019Somehow I miss the numbering of Nokia phone with 4 digits. ... moreSame, for example in 6500, the 6 represents the business class and the 5 (out of 1 to 9) shows that it is the middle-class of the 6xxx series. However this didn't apply to all Nokia phones, the 6310i isn't better than the 6650 for example. Also the i at the end e.g. 3510i were used to show that a phone was improved internally but didn't change externally.

Back when Android was in its heyday, I was thinking that a small company like OnePlus should rise to create a product which had little marketing, but the best software and hardware. At the time I was involved with AOKP, so I thought the mascot should be a Horse (its attractive to young/middle/old people). Hence, I thought it should be named the "Colt", and released yearly, so:

            2011 - CP1 (Colt Phone One)
            2012 - CP2
            2013 - CP3
            2014 - CP4
            2015 - CP5
            2016 - CP6
            2017 - CP7
            2018 - CP8
            2019 - CP9
            etc etc

And that they could've released also a Tablet, and a Console/TV Box. It would've been developer focused but consumer friendly. In contrast to iPhone (anti-consumer), and most Android phones (anti-developer). Guess, in the end greed is the driver for exaggerations, lies, and marketing, and it wins over the majority of consumers because they are not very intelligent.

Anyone still remember the turning point of Motorola and Sony in 2016?

Previously, we've had Moto X and Xperia Z
Then 2016 came and we've had Moto Z and Xperia X

--VM--, 07 Apr 2019A mad name game .. We don't buy a phone by seeing it name In reality we do but not by the seeing the name of the phone but the brand's name

To search for new sony xperia flagship is specially hard, no wonder with the naming as "1". They should just use code names in words like andromeda and the likes with the year attached.

Over time I actually read comments bashing a product (Sony XZP for example), just because it was difficult for them to pronounce the name. Hating a product because you can't speak it's name is dumber than anything :))
I can't pronounce Koenigsegg perfectly, but I don't hate that brand for it..

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2019we should get different name of pohnes just like the cars,y... moresorry this is not car blog but buddy I really looked on google with your keyword "any 2 cars having same name" and found amazing facts with a lot of cars and the one you should see is
Hyundai Genesis sedan and the Genesis coupe
                                    and there are more ....

I believe the "One" started with HTC Nexus One. Then there was the entire family of HTC One X, One S and One V, with multiple iterations for different regions and carriers. Then it was reduced to just One (M7). Good old days.

These days manufacturers seem really lost. Jumping from 10 to 20 and so on, or messing with Roman numerals, not really knowing how to use them. Like Apple, when they named their phone XS, which in Roman numerals equals 10.5, not "Ten S".

It's funny to watch them struggle.
