Anonymous, 28 Apr 2019If you open your eyes to see Nokia photos come out true to ... moreDude, any phone nowadays can take RAW photos and achieve great color accuracy already. Pixels and Xperias often do it straight in Auto mode as well.
iPhones can take natural looking images in Auto mode, and many other flagships can take natural images in RAW.
The problem is that the Nokia 9 isn't the only phone that can do it, which begs the question as to what's special about its image performance.

"What Nokia was in the past is NOT the same as what Nokia today is, and what they're doing is NOT the same as what they've done in the past."
I don't know what's hard to understand in that very simple fact, or I'd guess it's difficult for your soft feelings to take in....

Nokia was ahead in the conpetition back in the day? A bit, but they had many competitors right behind them, in the form of Motorola, Sony, and HTC sometimes.
They were once ahead before, but NOT today!
Nokia 9's "PureView" moniker is simply nothing but a name.
The 808 PV and Lumia 1020 deserved their PureView trademark due to the fact that their lead in image quality is so much apparent even without doing so many complicated stuff, while your new Nokia 9 requires shooting in RAW and post-process, just to achieve the "better than the competition" result, which is just one aspect of the overall image quality.
            Yes, ONE aspect ONLY.
Depth mapping works 4 out of 10 times because when done in Auto mode, its edge detection is horrible, even worse than the Pixel and the iPhone. It can detect so many layers of depth, but cannot accurately distinguish the main subject from the background? Pathetic.
But let's say the Nokia 9 is the best for depth capturing, how about the rest of the camera quality?
How about 4K@60fps? EIS in 4K@30fps? Optical zoom? Low light image performance? Slow motion capabilities? Wide angle perspective? HDR processing? Handheld Night Mode? Natural detail rendering?
It's ironic for a phone with supposedly '3' monochrome sensors to have mediocre low light performance, and not to mention how fast it takes every shot with depth mapping.

...many comments here from IGNORANT phone users... OZO is surround sound recording.
Nokia phones having this feature have superior sound recorded than any other high end smartphone available... NOKIA owns several technologies and is patented to various OEMs.
Nokia is far ahead in smartphone technology...

But the competitors to Nokia phone can't preserve the real life colors so originality still remains with Nokia 9 Pureview

Nokia was ahead of image quality back in 2007 since the N-series days till the Lumia days, mic technology ahead of time since the Nokia N-8 and then you say that Nokia 9 Pureview depth mapping is just a moniker. However, if i were you, i'll rate the depth mapping a 9/10 because of its 1200 depth layers.

Conclusion: I can say that Nokia can compete with others, but to them its a life and death battle.

The loudspeaker produced better in lower register than all Nokia mono speakers like Nokia 8, Nokia 7+, Nokia 9, etc. And for audio Nokia 6 is still better than all other Nokia phones audio, but only in the lower register.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2019Just had to show that Nokia was ahead of the competitions. ... moreAhead in what?
What Nokia today is different from what they were in the past. What they're doing today is different from what they did in the past.
Ahead in the competition, you say, when there clearly were rivals to them back in the day. And it's merely a matter of just 1 year before Apple jumped into the stereo recording club, nothing like decades took them to catch up.
Besides, when Nokia was ahead in microphone quality, they were behind in image quality.
You see, the latest iPhone from last year still destroys the latest Nokia phone in pure image quality with the so-called "PureView" moniker on it, except in depth mapping, which works like 4 out of 10 times.

True to life image and stock Android?
That's the Google Pixel and Sony Xperia. Clearly Nokia HMD Global still can't compete in the high end segment just yet.
Well even their budget offerings are nothing special to talk about anyway.

People tend to live in the past. So it is easy fool them through their feelings. Easy for HMD to take profit of it while last.

It's good that it has good microphones, so their owners could record their blames when their phones suffer breakdowns.

Besides, unlike Nokia, Apple isn't bragging about their improved microphones anyway. Well they do mention it, but don't give too much emphasis on it despite the fact that it's really good.
This is just one of the few things that Nokia/HMD can bring to the table as their trump card, and yet they can't make it so much better than what the competition already has, considering their competitors have so many other strong points that'll easily blow them out of the water.
