I expect the same number of pixels in each resolution standard (FHD, QHD, UHD, 2K, 4K, 8K). When it's not the same number, you need to make a new standard. Which they have done, and they call it CinemaWide 4K. But you cannot list it as "4K" without specifically definition it with the additional terminology.

Shui8, 30 Apr 2019Yup, 4k UltraWide Cinema in 21:9 mode are indeed 3840x1600.... moreMy screen is 4096 x 10 pixels, it's 4K!
LOL, people are so thick. There is a reason why screen sizes are measured by their pixel height by technical professionals. You can call whatever you like '4K' it just doesn't mean anything.

Shui8, 30 Apr 2019Yup, 4k UltraWide Cinema in 21:9 mode are indeed 3840x1600.... moreThis is basically the same logic that AT&T is using to claim the 5G standard under the 5Ge label.
4K term was established, then the manufacturers twisted it around until they were satisfied with the marketing results.

it's your own opinion, thats ok with me... but when talking scientifically:

AnonD-558092, 30 Apr 2019Maybe. However the Xperia 1 can't be considered as a 4K UHD... moreStill, that Xperia 1 looks so cool with that tall display and no silly NOtch. I think I'll upgrade my S8+ to it.
Samsung phones are very good, but the update service is rather slow (my phone is unlocked and I still haven't received the April security patch).

It has been settled by device and display manufacturers that they should see the base 16:9 resolution and add a +. Like the S10 and S9 and S8 are all using WQHD+ panels. Technically the Xperia 1 is a WQXGA+ display.

AnonD-558092, 29 Apr 2019The 4K term is easily deformed. True 4K is 4096x2160 4K ... moreit has been settled among display manufacturers and content providers that 4k is 3840x2160. i guess it has been rounded off like many other specs in tech today- 6.18" screen is marketed as 6.2", 5.8GB RAM is marketed as 6GB, etc. i agree to what you are pointing out that 4k means 4,000 and that the horizontal pixels on a true 4k display should indeed pass the 4,000 mark. however, it has been decided otherwise for us as we don't have control over these standards. the display manufacturers and content providers are the ones who have a say on it. besides, most widely available displays and videos today are on 16:9 aspect ratio still, so i guess that's ok.

No other brand has 10bit nor BT2020 support.
LG sold to Sony 10bit BT2020 screens with 120/144Hz, but used 8bit 60Hz for their phones.

As much... moreThe 4K term is easily deformed.
True 4K is 4096x2160
4K UHD (TVs and Computers, aka mass-market 4K) is 3840x2160 to accomodate 16:9 displays, even though it should have been 4096x2304 to be true 4K.
And then that 4K Cinema thing isn't 4K. You could argue it's UHD Cinema but not 4K because it doesn't reasonably match any true 4K dimension.
