Ditching Cybershot was a mistake, as was making the walkman androids very plain with a music player that still isn't as good as the feature phone version from 4 years ago. Their Xperia ones just haven't cut it in terms of technology and looks. Sony will have a tough time.

I think they should consider themselves lucky that they are still in the race.
What are they doing for the past 3-4 years? Only Designing their phones and nothing else, not keeping up the pace with Hardware or Display or stuffs? Why would one buy a low spec phone of SE when they would get a much higher spec'ed Samsung phone?
I was a HUGE fan of SE, till 2007, but no more.
However I would like to step back to SE or I should say only Sony now, because I am really bored with Samsung. Pathetic after sales support, gob customer care agents and stuffs.

If they really think to with stand in market and to get in to top, they should reduce the price a bit and introduce couple of mid range phones with fully loaded hand sets....but still even though they showing not a good result last year 2011, SE mobiles are more preferable like Neo V and Arc S but these two also going to be little bit costly among the middle class in India.... but where as Samsung they introduce many hand sets targeting Indian middle class... but at the same time those hand sets are marginally fine but attracts the consumers...but SE is always a best choice for who aware of the quality.... All the very best to Sony for this year 2012....

SE lost a lot of ground becuase it stop being in the technology lead, when cybershot pohones and walkman phones where the best, SE was doing great. Currently they are always behing saying that it is because they offer a more polished experience, but the market wants the best w/o compromises, like Xperia Arc is almost perfect, but noe front facing camera?, SE or Sony needs to start innovating soon.

let me tell u something ... i m frm india and there is only too big brands in mobiles -- SAMSUNG, and NOKIA, both r good brands but not always. i saw that many peoples,my parents and my frnds also spend their money on these two ,they don't care if any other brand gives more at this price (with service). for ex...if i suggest someone to buy any LG or SONY phone rather then Sammy or Nokia they neglect me but they proudly buys Sony Viao laptops,LG_Sony Tv, refrigerator etc even they are overpriced..... its looking very funny sometime for me..

I dont like Sony Ericsson. It's slow on updates and when the so called flagship of the company (Xperia Arc) has only 320MB of internal memory for apps you know something is not right (the midrange Motorola Defy has 2GB). Sure, things can change, but i would think twice before buying an SE handset.

The article says that the losses were caused by intense competition in the SMARTPHONE segment which lead to price erosion. And then we see Sony deciding to go smartphone only, and ditch the entire feature phone portfolio. This cant end well. Sony will not make it in the phone business with just androids alone. Samsung has too many options in the low end and there is far too much competition on the high end.

Xperia phones should have been real competitor with others and they missed. When i planned to buy a smartphone , i found few features were missed in SE and i settled with S2.
I was great admirer of SE's quality and i have used W810 and Yari.

i thnk we will wait for Q2 results when X-S and Ion and some others in the market coz they r going to launch in the end of Q1 .........Q1 results can still be disappointing. :(

configurations of SE phone is a far much batter then most of the other brands including sammy at first.
price wise u r telling 2 years back story check out latest price and then comment . in india xperia mini( 12000 INR) wid 1GHz processor+HD camera+high resolution screen and many more which is importent for Android not just like others which providing bulky slow processor phone.
and i don't know why r u telling "so many malfunctions"
