I think as SONIM phone will be good. Tough and rugged. Just nice for military use. They can even ask them to manufacture the SONIM phones without camera

Damn! SG is not part of China? Couldn't tell when I walk around the street these days....
I think the 3rd party warranty @ $300+ is too expensive. Might consider getting it in the used phone market later on though...

For National Servicemen in Singapore I would recommend getting iNo Solo instead - http://asia.cnet.com/product/ino-mobile-solo-45544773.htm
It is supposedly more rugged and ready for military environment, also product from Singapore.
