Anonymous, 21 Jan 2012Singapore always does due diligence and finds the most effi... morePeople are just cheated by this always.

There is difference between secured and unsecured connections.

For example , i bought a mac and had no antivirus and what happens ? if one virus enters , it destroys my entire system because i didnt defend computer with antivirus instead i was arrogant.

          http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/12/01/18/mac_platform_faced_58_malware_threats_from_q2_to_q4_2011___report.html

Closed platform is secured compared to open but doesnt mean we must not worry about it.
threats regarding software/OS is always there.

So if i had windows machine i would have used anti virus for sure and my PC dont get threats vs Mac situation. (lot safer too)

Many apps in iOS collect lot of data and stuff.

Some websites said ipad 2 is carrying retina display.
Did they go to apple campus and seen it ? NO.

They put software in the app along with some tools which track device including details of it.

Whenever they see someone carrying higher resolution screen or new Chip under device's ID , they make rumor that new ipad has "a6 chip or it has retina display" but actually those devices are meant for testing.

How can they access location services ?
iOS has geo tagging feature with photos and so they create a photo app and these websites or hacker put their tools and pay the developer for putting those tools in their own app and whenever someone uses app or takes photo , entire phone details come into hacker.

If u want to test phone camera , u take photos and also u use some apps and make sure camera works good with 3rd party apps and compatible to diff API's.

That way iOS or Android get threats or get tracked.

Android threats are mostly from SMS apps which take lot of data.

Steve jobs himself said in an interview how iPhone gets tracked he also quoted : (this happend just b4 iPhone 4 was released/unveiled around June 2010)
"a lot of people never asked us about this"

So i never agree iPhone is safe or something.

But i agree iOS is lot secured compared to android but again android has antivirus softwares which control phone entirely unlike iOS antivirus which have partial control over phone and 1 GB RAM phones can handle them.
iP4 or 4S have only 512 MB RAM and if i use Mcafee or something entire phone goes waste.
So at the end all platforms are equally vulnerable.

Haven't you people ever gone to school? Singapore is NOT part of china, it's a country of its own, just a very small island. I think it's a fantastic idea, since most soldiers have to make do with some cheap LG or other rubbish. In Singapore, Android isn't very well received, so iPhone is naturally the better model to convert.

New personel who are enlisting or those who are working in the army as their career (and even people working in other high security organizations) would no doubt look into this offers. At least now there is a non-camera phone with up-to-date features.

I think foreigner just don't understand. In SG, the only choice of non-camera smartphone is limited to HTC Snap and various non-camera variant of BB. BB non-camera is actually sufficient for most of us in the military. iPhone non-camera is just another option for the richer military personnel. For non-SGian expressing your view on this issue, your own country also have policy that doesn't make sense. So don't criticize SG policies.

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2012Singapore always does due diligence and finds the most effi... moreoh, iOS is not as secure as you might think.. it is harder to infiltrate, but once you jailbreak it, that's it.. it's the same as Android.. btw, if you are as smart as your smartphone, you wouldn't want to download malicious apps from unknown developers, only download from trusted developers..

iOS is locked down, that's why..

i can agree that iPhone is one of the best smartphones out there, but to be used in the military, i don't think it can make the cut.. military is often related to ruggedness, toughness, and i can't see any part of the iPhone, apart from its restricting OS, that is rugged.. i think Xperia Active is much better in handling rough conditions than the iPhone, plus it is more compact, and lighter, which are crucial when packing your gear..

If there's no camera in a phone like these, it would be very ironic.
And by the way, Singapore isn't China.

Three telecommunication companies in Singapore are just providing new options for personnels working in military bases and civil companies that do not allow use of camera. Due to the popularity of iPhone in Singapore, it is clever of them to tap into this market.

The relative security of iOS, over the terrible security of Android and the relatively unknown aspect of WP7 (for now) make the iPhone a great choice.
