But it's improving at a rapid rate. Same thing will happen to in display cameras too. All u gotta do is to wait for 1st Gen tech to go away. I own a One Plus 3T since the day of it's release. It's a fine all round phone with no gimmicks and all the tech it has r refined to the point where from usability stand point it's perfect. I am gonna hold on to it until phones get rid of notches and perfect the in display tech. There's no point in getting a phone in the last year or so, considering how fast things r improving in many areas.

I bet that when Nokia 7600 was released, there also were the "anti-haters" who argued that this is just another step forward and it was only a question of time until all phones adapted this trend. Luckily, some inventions are just straight forward useless and they don't catch on.

Don't get me wrong, in-display fingerprint will most likely catch on, but at its current phase it's trash and I wouldn't want it on my phone, so I understand the complains.

If they're going to come as an extremelly inferior version of regular selfie cameras with as many problems as the in-display fingerprint scanners, then yes, I will argue against them. As for the "I didn't break my screen so it's not a problem" - there was a research done last year (SquareTrade), and it showed that around 5,761 screens get broken every hour, which is around 2 per second. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that with screens getting bigger all the time, this number will only rise. Glass is glass and it needs to be protected.

But as usual people are narrow minded and think in display tech has no use outside of smartphones and we should just have the same tech forever

Sweet irony because I remember people said fingerprint scanners were gimmicks and all we need were passwords man things never change

With the new bezelless drive, the only way to get it is through in screen FP and it's only the ultrasonic ones that have an issue with screen protectors. The optic ones like in this phone doesn't have an issue. Also, if u use a half decent case, u will almost never have issues with glass breaking. I have used Glass screen phones for almost a decade now. Never broke the display glass even once, and I drop my phone a pretty fair amount. It isn't even like the cases I use r bulky, it's abt being smart on the type u use.

In the near future we will also have cameras going under the screen, will u still argue against them then?

After I got a phone with one, I can see that it has no issues and pretty fast, but if I only listened to the reviewers and tech sites, I wouldn't have used one.

I personally do not use screen protectors but still glass is glass, and it cracks.. So in display fingerprint scanner is a gimmick for me. Battery capacity should be 4000 at least for the Pro model. It's quite under powered.

LOL that's supposed to be an advantage?

In-display fingerprint scanner is another stupid gimmick that nobody asked for, yet manufacturers opted for and now trying to make sh*t smell good which is not possible.

ID scanner has shown to have questionable performance and reliability, alongside with limited screen protector usage options and let's not forget that - in classic's words - "glass is glass, and glass breaks", rendering this whole "innovation" completely useless. Which might be the reason why manufacturers go for it - giving users another reason to go buy another phone when they crack their screen, instead of keep using it.
