Instead of 64MP that make a 16MP photo, why they don't use bigger pixels? They will still get more light and I think this it will work better.
*You may be able to take 64MP photos as well but I think it's too much for a photo!

Anonymous, 09 May 2019Sensor pf 1/1.7" with all this DR? LMAO.
Not even Full ... moreI am not sure where you are getting the 400x and 800x figures from. It makes me suspect the school you went to, shut down permanently.
A medium format (Fuji size) sensor is 43 times the size of Samsung's new 64MP sensor (1/1.72", though I have shrunk it mildly to 1/7" for the purpose of calculating size comparison).
I am not sure where you get your figures from. If you can prove me wrong, please go ahead.
About the new Samsung sensor, I an reading from their Official Press Release literature. And this is for HDR Photos, where multiple photos are stacked and where Quad pixels are combined for much better dynamic range and much lower noise. Smartphones combine various frames for getting g much better dynamic range. Increase in focus speeds and faster readout sensor time ensures that HDR has more photos to combine into a single HDR photo. This sensor can do Full HD at 480fps, so I suspect that it can do Full Res at atleast 60fps, since the Sony IMX586 can only do Full HD at 240fps and Full Res at 30fps. It also has slower focus speeds.
Having 16.5 stops of dynamic range has been quoted from the official Samsung Press Release for HDR capabilities, which I suspect may be possible, considering the improved processing and focussing speeds, and improved down-ressing algorithms. Though those will be 8-bit JPEGs (I hope there is an option for 10-bit HEIF files too).

Matter of fact in the latest comparisons more people prefer ISOCELL pictures. Shit I even have a Note 9 in my pocket and it has an ISOCELL sensor.

Competition is always good. With no competition, the leader will stagnant. Be glad that Samsung is challenging Sony to do ever better. Look at what Sony did to Canon and Nikon. They were forced to enter the full-frame mirrorless market because of Sony's disruption to the market. The consumers benefit in the end. So stop being a fanboy.

But I doubt any company will sacrifice design for big camera sensor.
