Sathish, 09 May 2019I think it is 1/1.8" not 1.8" size. Seems typo in the content.i think 1 1/8 sensor size, 1.8 is aparture size

But all are smaller with dual pixel.
None of the 48MP have dual pixels AF, just PDAF

The last Oracle, 09 May 2019Thisnis the next generations of sensor. It has much ... moreSensor pf 1/1.7" with all this DR? LMAO.
Not even Full Frame sensors (400x larger) can even reach 16EV.
Not midformat too, 800x larger than a 1/2.55" used on s10.

Marco M, 09 May 2019While their sensors are not Sony grade, they are still good... moreSlower innovation speed?
1) Except Canon, all professional cameras use Sony sensors. They bring new sensors for mobile every year.
2) Quadbayer, WRGB, RYYB, stacked sensor were all created by Sony
This sensor is just a high resolution sensor that is same of last year 48MP Samsung copied from Sony. Sony made stacked imx400 for XZ Premium and Samsung copied for S9.
Sony made QuadBayer 48MP + 1/2" and Samsung copied.
Without Sony Imaging/Sony Semicon sensor technology would be same since 2005

"As is normally the case with those sensors though, you are mostly supposed to shoot in the binned mode as the full res shots don't really deliver that much extra detail."
That's only because several smartphone manufacturers don't use the best algorithms as you need a very good noise performance for such many details. You also need good demosaicing algorithms. I am sure that Google would do it much better than competitors.

It is wrong to write Quadbayer. It is commercial name of Sony.
For isocell, it has to be called Tetracell always and only.
Same way Sammy calls your screen SuperAmoled.

That sensor is HUGE. Finally they get it. The binned pictures will be awesome. But since the individual pixels are decently sized, you should be able to actually get more details in Daylight. And the tech that comes with it is great too.

Anonymous, 09 May 2019Nice. Maybe Samsung will include them in S11.GW1 and GM2 will be made available for other manufacturers and aiming to be the better alternative of Sony's IMX586. All Samsung flagships use sensors with Dual Pixel AF which is missing from either of these sensors, so no, it won't happen.

Thisnis the next generations of sensor. It has much better low light and WAY higher dynamic range in HDR, of 100dB or about 16.5 Stops. That's more than any camera on the market right now. If Samsung can perform the HDR by storing photos in 10-bit HEIF, this smartphone could become a truly photographic monster actually replacing the majority of point and shoot cameras.

Those sensors are for mostly mid rangers so there will never be in flagships...
They want best for their smartphones so they go for sony's sensors. I think that's better logic than to use all of their components like exynos cpu and camera sensors when they know its inferior.

AnonD-241270, 09 May 2019sammy is a company who dont trust what they do...so, S10 se... moreWhile their sensors are not Sony grade, they are still good, and without Samsung as a competitor - Sony would likely have a slower innovation speed as well.
We should all be happy that mid range and budget devices get increasingly better sensors, regardsless if they are Samsung or Sony made. it's not that long since midrangers had awful cameras compared to flagships, now even some budget phones comes with stellar camera performance.
This is good, because quite frankly not all require flagship CPU/GPU, but most would always want the best camera at any given price point. Be it for themselves, photographing trips, kids, friends etc.
Xiaomi does not typically use Samsung main camera sensor in their flagships. They have mostly used Sony lately, including Sony IMX586 in Mi 9. Samsung does use their own sensors, just not in flagships - at least not main sensor. A-series use Samsung sensors, I think. Not all that into samsung devices though.
