Bluetooth was so slow to transfer the data, you can compare the of WiFi and the bluetooth anyways. Try any others apps that used WiFi hotspot to transfer the file to see the difference

I acutally used that feature sometimes... but latley I started to use Whatsapp for transfer...
Thanks Google, the new update will render my NFC useless, and now I'll have to have an app to do something that used to be part of my system before.
Even tho I used WiFi direct even without an app... so therefore that makes the app useless?
If I have to turn on Bluetooth to use it, then I can just send it over Bluetooth as well... which is more reliable than WiFi direct...
And because you can already use both, WiFi direct and Bluetooth - Google's app is basically useless...

Android beam was useless. Shaking hands via NFC and then sending by BT? What a waste of time like BT hasn't done that before... However BT always works while the same can't be said about Wifi-Direct even though it is superior than the previous two...as it has a mind of it's own working only when it wants to so it's a hit or miss...

I thought Beam did a handshake via NFC and transferred via wifi or Bluetooth? The handshake and transfer was EASY and no one needed to install an app. Sad to see this go.

Used it to transfer photos between friends. Back in the days where it wasn't enough to just slam a stack of into a WhatsApp group...

Totally forgot it was a thing and Samsung ran a few commercial with it laughing at Apple. Clearly Airdrop was a more developed and secure idea

I've used Android Beam, but it's not very fast. Wi-FI Direct is hundred times faster so it make logic to remove it ... but was it costly to keep that feature? I guess it wasn't safe to have it on, because anyone could send you a file when you had NFC on (no confirmation was required to receive a file)

if only wifi-direct transfers can also be triggered by nfc. then again most other oems have similar function baked in to their android fork.

A little correction. 2011 is the year of iOS 5... you should correct it to 2013 because THAT'S the year Airdrop was introduced.

I've never used it and don't care. Just increase performance and add an option to customize navigation buttons.

Good decision.
Transfering vital data over wifi is much better stable and faster.
Bluetooth is too slow.

This is a shame. I use Android beam all the time.
How does Google's Wi-Fi solution work when we're out and about without Wi-Fi?
So Android Q is shaping up to be be part of Google's progressive downgrade push. They got rid of call recording API, and now this!

The more info I get from Android Q like the removal of the back button for side swipes I was doing years ago with All-In-One Gesture, the more I don't want to update. I'm one of the few who actually loves Pie.
I now have two phones with Pie (Essential Phone & Google Pixel 3) and both run great on Android 9. I'm typing on my LG G5 that still has Marshmallow and it still runs great on it!
Gingerbread is actually still alive after 9 years. Imagine Marshmallow after 9 years? It's already going on its 5th year. I know some people still on KitKat. I know Android is fragmented but not everyone wants to update.
