Android Q removes support for Android Beam

09 May 2019
Was anyone still using that? If yes, they'll have to switch to Google Files.

Sort by:

It's AirDrop and it wasn't released the same year as Android Beam. It was released in 2013 because iOS7 wasn't released in 2011.

It pisses me off how fragmented Android is.

Intruder, 09 May 2019Could never get the damn thing to work properly. Begone!Close to my experience as well. Tried using it when I first got a handset that offered it; couldn't get it to work consistently/reliably, relegated it to the box of half-assed software novelties along with Samsung's old 'hover' features, eye scrolling, etc..

A big shame. As someone with multiple devices this was a very convenient way to transfer pictures from one device to another

Android needs to be cleaned to be honest lot of bloatware even on stock android.

I actually use this. Good thing I'm stuck on Oreo for now :D

                      Yeah.
I still use it to share links. Way easier than sending over some IM if the other person is right next to me.

Yes Google. Keep removing useful things. And then add useless things like allowing carriers to block Dual SIM functionality (I'm serious. This is an Android Q "feature". Check this link: https://www.xda-developers.com/android-q-carriers-sim-lock-phones/ )

Will it be replaced by Android drop
                            Androp. Anyone??
