Positioning is more robust and accurate in most conditions, if both systems are active.'

There are no more sattelites to choose from, because you can use OR GPS, OR GLONASS. Glonass can't use data from GPS satellites, and GPS can't use data from GLONASS sattelites.
And taking in account that GLONASS is about 5 time worse than GPS, you gaining only battery drain, and nothing else.

GLONASS on my iPhone 4S takes 3-5 seconds to lock on average.

That fancy feature doesn't prevent my Xperia neo from taking ages to lock on my location anywhere here, with or without tall buildings around.

a mobile phone is just that, a mobile phone. sure it has all these great features like camera (which can never be as good as a real camera), a speaker (which will never be as good as real speaker), and among many other things, a GPS module (which will never be as good as a STANDALONE gps).

Please stop comparing your mobile phone to a dedicated gps unit because it makes no sense alright

The problem is mobiles are still too slow and inaccurate for proper gps use. They take far too long from cold to lock and then plus or minus 20-200 metres is not good enough with todays technology. I have run several mobiles next to a top end Garmin gps and none were close enough. I need accurate location fixing but no mobile is good enough.

Your assertion that this would be "worse" is way off the mark.

The main advantage is the ability to get a much easier lock/fix with more satellites to choose from. Most people experienced with GPS know that this is the most frustrating aspect of GPS.

wow a battery hunger feature, GPS with network or AGPS is enough, then having both just to have firm sattelite lock is a fancy feature.

i.e. The fact that phone has accsess to more satelites, doesn't mean that it will have improved positioning results, if part of those sattelites are used by totally different to GPS system, with worse to GPS perfomance.
