Weekly poll results: Pixel 3a gets some love, the Pixel 3a XL not so much

19 May 2019
These two will do better in Western regions where there is less competition in the mid-range. Elsewhere, their price makes them hard to love.

LEEDAQ, 19 May 2019to be fair, the majority of people don't need the latest fl... moreNot just the security patches that'd be dumb but for full OS vers as long as the hw can support it. And no this won't happen for reason(s) like:-

1. Google literally are doing a public service for OEMs with AOSP already? Sure they charge a licensing fee for gapps usage but that's about it. Advocating that OEMs should charge to bring out updates is like saying that they should do a proper forked out AOSP (which is fine if they're really able to) slapped with their UIs sure but at what quality compromise? The UIs are the ongoing problem here and the excuse used for the current updates' lax. And so far Samsung included to me are craptacular at in-house development. Let alone any other OEMs. Save for maybe 1+'s OxygenOS effort. And what's gonna happen to gapps + AOSP licensing then?

We need to vote with our wallets that's all. All else fails? Buy a Pixel. No? Then stick with what we have and just hold over however long we want before we upgrade.

It's because people were waiting for a NORMAL FRRIKIN SIZED PHONE, and not this oversized shovels that are sold everywhere.

I really hope Google will fix the issues with the 4 series, including that hideous notch.

s10e looks a great value for money after pixel 3a and oneplus 7 pro release

to be fair, the majority of people don't need the latest flagship phones anymore as the phone specs are gone up a lot.

Phone companies should change their marketing strategy, after 3 years update, charge us for the further patches. I'm sure most of the people would happy to pay extra for the security patches rather than spending another $400 above phones

It's a decent phone with some flaws like unusable audio while recording video, but in Europe competition is much more appealing and cheaper.
In Europe it would have to be 350$ with VAT to be a decent value.

Walter C. Dornez, 19 May 2019Exactly. This is perfect for the North American markets. No... moreZenFone 6? It's the same price as the 3a XL and vastly superior

It is decent price for US. But for Asians like India, it asks for 570 USD which is quite premium for what it offers on this tighty market..

Predictable. And yet the companies continue pushing oversized phablets that no one wants and neglecting more compact options.

The price may be competitive for India for such a flagship camera but it costs like $640 (3a XL) & $570(3a) which is much higher than the real price.
So user can get OnePlus 7 and 7 pro for the same price and get flagship performance but not the flagship camera

Pixel 3a gets some love, the majority thinks it's not enough.

To be fair, the SD670 is an underclocked SD710. They're not lacking in SoC performance at all. The camera's here, FHD OLED with no notch or hole, clean Android... it lacks a bigger battery but it's a solid package nonetheless. There's even a headphone jack in here. I'm sure it will sell. Guess it depends heavily on the price where you live, but 400USD in North America is a good price

Only 1plus 6t and Nokia 8.1 is better option. Still OLED screen, no notch gimmick makes it better option than many. Only drawback is SD670. It should have featured sd675 or 730.

pixel in UK is £400,for £440 you can get an Asus 6,the Asus blows the pixel apart on spec, and as I don't use phone cameras for anything but quick snapshots, I don't care a jot that the pixel gets access to Googles A.I camera software, when I want decent pics, I use a tiny little Lieca v40lux, cost £140 from ebay, no phone camera can get close to the pics and performance to a decent real camera, 20x true zoom +20 x digital zoom, much bigger lens and sensor, so much more light to work with, fits in any pocket, weighs nothing and is just as quick to get out of pocket and shoot with as my phone does..
I don't care if a phone has got 48mp x 2 cameras, or whatever silly pixel count the sensors have, they are working with lenses less than 3mm wide, so no light gathering capability, so they need to use huge amounts of processing to get even a half decent result, all that grunt and battery use, just to get compromised pictures !!
Now explain to me why I would want to buy a pixel 3a !!
