Huawei's Android replacement could be called Ark OS

A metaphorical vessel to save Huawei from the US flood? Too deep?

You can't set the settings by hand just after you've put all of your clothes in the spinner, go put a timer or go check on it yourself? Really?

Luxor, 29 May 2019Yeah, we talking about OS not SoCS.Huawei doesn't require ARM's permission to produce an ARM compatible OS.

GVera, 29 May 2019The problem with Ark will be the ecosystem. Sure all 'big' ... moreNo one is in a hurry! Let it happen in its own pace! Sooner or later most of the stuff will be Cloud based and local execution environment will become OS independent since each devices will have its own OS...it may become OS standards than OS per se....as such for consumers most of the App experiences or more or less same across OS....no one misses iOS or no one feels thrilled with Android....they have sort of slowed down in upgrades by shaking notification, colour mode, dark themes etc... radical innovations impacting the consumer experience are over...

NotAnOpinion, 29 May 2019Now, if only that tiny tiny tiny problem replacing... ARM! ... moreYes yes your operating off your memory and the past

As long as it's possible it's worth a try

I'll put you with the people that said flight was not possible for human beings or going into space

Sure all 'big' apps probably will be there, Whatsapp, Twitter, etc. but specific apps won't. Will I be able to seamless connect it to my car as Android/Apple do? Probably not, it will take years to automakers to incorporate 'Arc Auto' in cars. Will I have a Classè app to control my audio system at home? I won't.
I even have an app to program my washing machine, machine I won't change in long tiome, the 'world' is Android/iOs compatible, how long will it take to be Ark compatible?

I can already see those European customers shooting themselves to the foot by buying immature unknown OS without any services rather than buying other brand and be done with it.

Anonymous, 29 May 2019Why are people talking like Huawei have clean hands ? Never... moreNo idea. I don't even sure how China aka Huawei threats it's own country population and ecology. And neighboring countries.

Being rather tech savvy I would not have an issue finding a way around any of this ordeal either-way. I could simply physically replace some hardware or the OS itself (since it tends to be cheap enough to make this more viable). I don't think most people have this option so it will come down to marketing and how much better Ark OS is for them, it will likely hurt any western users who can't live without certain google functionalities like YouTube and Gmail.

China has already been in the recent years superior to US in any technological development capabilities, I can see them improving on most functionalities. I am glad that some of these Huawei phones don't have a stupid camera on the front of the screen since I mainly use my phone as a video/music playing device with strictly text-based chatting.
If Ark OS either doesn't impose boundaries or does things better it is certainly going to be my choice. Given Huawei I am certain the phones in the upcoming years are going to be superior to some Android-Q versions of something like samsung , apple or oneplus. It will be interesting to see a large gap between phones functionalities as unlikely as it is since different phones play copy cat with new features. It's pretty much given that even the Ark OS is going to carry most of the functionalities of the new Android-Q in time. I don't think anyone is going to beat Huawei's price for performance, it will be interesting to see how things go once more independent development starts occurring.

Even Google Docs,Sheet, slide, even MS Office full suit, in both Android & in iOS took lots of time. All are spying for their respective governments....

I really hope their new OS will be faster and smoother than usual android ROMS. I really have absolutely no concern about security. I'd rather be spied on by chinese than USA. At least if they leak something, they will leak it on local chinese youtube similar services where other than chinese people rarely or they don't visit at all. And there's nothing to hide. I care less about google services, because we still have youtube from browser, we have gmail on browser or native email clients which can sync with gmail, whatsapp can be installed, etc. And if there are no google services, there is microG to replace google services. And it doesn't share anything with google.

I hope there will be only one version of their OS compatibile with all devices, no matter if they are for chinese, european, US or other markets. AND I HOPE NOTIFICATIONS WILL WORK.

So android apps will work on it but since you don’t have google service you cannot install gmail or YouTube on it, that gonna hurt, the only way to access those apps is through web browsers
