hi, 29 Jan 2012you do you know you can disable the metro UI -.-What do you mean about disabling Metro UI?! As far as I know, we can't disable it. We only have desktop to run non metro apps (like when all current apps running in windows 7). And please do note that in ARMS, Microsoft is disabling these desktop thing. So all ARMS based Windows 8 WILL only have metro UI (and it's apps).

3Zukr, 30 Jan 2012Can't beleive until we dont use the product. But Microsoft ... moreWell .. if it perform at least exactly like it was on VM, it should be fastest. In VM, with around 512 MB RAM, Windows 8 can boot around 6~10 seconds. That's the fastest boot time for desktop OS I've ever taste (I've taste Windows XP, Windows 7, CentOS Linux, various Ubuntu based linux, FreeBSD, Mac Snow Leopard, Mac Lion). So .. yeah. This will be the fastest desktop boot.

windows o/s is not an open source, it has determined licenses. so technically, you cant run win o/s just bcoz it support ARM architechture.

but the other way is possible, you can port your andorid o/s to windows phone or iphone

Can't beleive until we dont use the product. But Microsoft has claimed that Windows 8 will be the legend like Windows 95.
They said it require lesseer RAM, Booting is fastest(Dont know whther it would be faster than the booting time of Linux Ubantu or not), Metro Interface, etc. etc.
It will be revolutionary OS it their claim becomes true.

splendid! now we can get huge amount of apps (even more than android + Ios!) and true multitasking (like with meego or palm's web OS), but microsoft should polish it with a nice touch optemized UI and more importantly system stability,, wish to see a 10" tablet with karit quadro, 128 gb ssd and 6000 mAh battery +other goodies we see in todays tablets!

Personally I think users would prefer tablets to come with full legacy app support (well, that'd give the OS apps for everything!), but if they're going to run 2 versions, at least they should make it clear to users.

guys... i still don't know (couldn't understand from post) that arm based win8 would be able to run windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit apps like solidwork or photoshop?
if it cant it would be a big disappointment

Windows on ARM could really be an opportunity for MS to clean out all the legacy stuff, i mean why in gods name does windows 7 need 1gig of ram and many gigs of disk before you even install an app.

That said if they don't make it easy to port at least .Net applications then I cant see why any software house would spend any effort supporting yet another 'native' MS framework vs HTML5.

To avoid confusion, MS should call Win8 on ARM something different. I can see it now "why won't my tablet run my old programs?? It's got Windows 8!"

They should call it "Windows 8 ARM" or "Windows 8 Tablet edition" ... anything to avoid angry customers!
