Walter C. Dornez, 08 Jun 2019Ah, so one is European. My bad. Still, considering that ARM... moreTheir new OS is a reality, they have been developing it for seven years. And sure it'll be Open Source with a good SDK. The ARM patents and behavior should be not a problem, and the behavior of ARM UK easily sorted, research a bit... The majority of ARM shares, 51%, are held by Softbank and some big chinese investors, the CEO of Softbank i believe is chinese too. If Softbank ask ARM UK for the designs... legally they must give them in hand ASAP!!! And i doubt that UK today want to enter in unnecessary conflicts, they already have enough with the semi-failed and peding Brexit that only some old patriotic grandfathers still watch with good eyes. It'll damage more than help future generations. But i understand that they wanted to die with their ancient sovereign fatherland as a souvenir. Unfortunately, the camera of the commons today looks like a circus of clowns arguing. There are people who put the TV to see them and laugh a while, imagine.
About the future or Huawei SoCs i believe that use ARM designs is at most temporally, i see more future develop and design RISC-V SOCs. Open Source, more flexible, equally powerfull... It's time to update and cut ties... And not only they should do that. Other manufacturers out and inside the EEC too preventing a success Brexit. It's the natural evolve if nothing better is invented.

"Google has reportedly issued a statement to the US government where it outlines the potential safety risks of Huawei devices running on a new proprietary operating system. Chief among them is the possibility of security breaches given that Huawei devices won't be able to receive security updates directly from Google."
US government will then retract the issued ban on Huawei, but too late. Huawei will still launch ARK OS.

[deleted post]So they are using old rear fingerprint sensor. The 2x optical zoom is quite old too. SD710 instead of SD730... Doesn't sound interesting if we take into the account the high prices they always put. At this point even you can think that they do it on purpose, sell few units is enough for the few employees HTC remain. Like Blackberry. Stratospheric prices and a bunch of phones for old fans who pay their retirement.
Like their headsets, new HTC Vive Pro Eye.... $1,599, CAD 2,149. You are welcome...

SpiritWolf, 08 Jun 2019Sailfish is based on MeeGo. Nokia. Ah, so one is European. My bad. Still, considering that ARM also broke off from Huawei, perhaps Huawei either assumed they wouldn't be an option or perhaps they want greater control over the OS.

[deleted post]He does have a point. Be on Huaweis side, but not on China's. I'd argue that it might be just as bad, perhaps even worse than the US in some aspects.

In related news, Google has reportedly issued a statement to the US government where it outlines the potential safety risks of Huawei devices running on a new proprietary operating system. ---? WT? why do you care? you already have cut ties with them. why issue this statement? if theres potential safety risk, its their problem, not yours.

every single one of these companies admit to tracking not just activities but even your location, this is so they can serve you "targeted ads". however, with the likes of facebook, apple, and google, the information they collect are not accessible by humans per their public disclosure notice. android, like ios, for a few years now have encrypted it's os by default and all information that it sends to certain servers are only readable by machines. even if huawei does include any kind of surveilance chip or software within their smartphones, it will be difficult for hackers (whether they be chinese or russians) to crack the information. please understand that this ban has nothing to do with huawei smartphones, rather their networking device business- from cellular transciever equipments and servers to modems/dongles and wifi routers- these have been found to be leaking information to chinese servers and even infecting unsecured web pages with http injectors that routes web traffic to china. the united states government may very well be doing the same thing indeed, so what matters now is ethical track records of these countries.

I want non US phone maker to gradually switch to the new OS. At least develop the new OS together. That way, it will be more user, more devs to come, more support.
It's time WE ALL to pull away from US dependency. This tragedy could happen to anyone, any company.

I believe Google won't release their services here. Just like WP days when Google was really afraid it becomes big and threatening Android.

IpsDisplay, 07 Jun 2019iOS is basically only supported by America most of its sale... moreFirst, Second & Third
Apps follow the Phone Market / Sales
IOS is not an Apple construct, fundamental to its core are Nokia patented procedures, Apple conceded victory to Nokia as it would have lost a court case, Apple pays Nokia royalty fees for every device that IOS runs on ( Google Nokia / Apple /Gsmarena for articles)
Virtually all major manufacturers had a Windows phone, Microsoft took forever and a day yo release an update, everyone then concentrated on Android Windows fell and despite Windows Phone 10 crashing to various degrees Microsoft still released Windows Phone 10 on its flagship Lumia 950, WP 10 ended Microsoft phones as it could not be fixed and Microsoft could not sell phones as these would add to consume complaints
In short all Microsoft need to do was say release e.g. Windows Phone 12 to fix all Windows Phone 10 problems, two years of fixes Microsoft quit
Apps follow phones, Trump has abused his power, no evidence just bullying allies
All Far Eastern phone companies worry that if it happens to Huawei, it could happen to them, not only Google, but the SD alliance, and US based chip makers
Third party app developers will follow "successful" or emerging OS
Huawei will then have a income stream just like Google, from Advertising etc
Samsung, LG etc pay Google each API
Re Android comments about security, we don't know how secure it is but it has to be better than Android, I doubt Google security patches work on another OS
Finally Blackberry 10 OS even though Blackberry World (App store) close on 12/31/2019
Blackberry has not needed any security patches in time Android has been issuing theirs
Whilst Blackberry 10 OS is not being used phones, BB10 OS or QNX is being developed for driverless cars

Anonymous, 08 Jun 2019I wouldn't trust a chinese OS or chinese device with my mer... moreApple is the bigger NSA backdoor you can own. What crap of deduction.
The OS of Huawei will be OPEN SOURCE, so nothing in the system will be propietary or hide anything. The problems you could have with third party apps are the same you'll find on Google Play apps, services and iOS too. Do you believe that iOS apps don't track you?
Then you are really wrong. Look at Macrumors and other pages about this:
"Apps Are Using Background App Refresh to Send Data to Tracking Companies"
iOS apps tracks you private information too and Apple the first one to do business with your private data too. Open your eyes a bit more and wake up!!!
