The appeal could take years in which the Korean company will be forced to sign another unfair deal.

4g providers build networks. These networks use LTE.
If your creat a technology, you will have to ask providers to build new networks...and they won't.

Anyone who want to use 4g must pay Qualcomm. Even if you use no hardware from Qualcomm.
(And it's normal...the problem is the amount and the respect if FRAND)

I did say Qualcomm is "NOT" a God when i used the term nor, they are not the only company in this world even thouhgh they might think that way.

If you do not use someone's patent(s) then you owe them nothing. Simple.

If you create your own technology with no resemblence to any other available tech then that's all your work and you owe nothing.

AnonD-732843, 15 Jun 2019"They still need a licensing agreement with Qualcomm to be ... moreOr course they need!
Learn to know what are standard essential patents!

Qualcomm has some (CDMA and LTE for exemple)
Qualcomm used to refuse patents to chipset's manufacturers and treat directly with phone's manufacturers.

Read the link I post below! 233 pages.
You will see that Qualcomm isn't god but evil!

Learn how the judge Lucy Koh proove :
        - that Qualcomm's directors like Cristiano Amon or Steve Mollenkopf lie to courthouse (page 13)
        - how Qualcomm force manufacturers with quotas to allow patents (LG was forced to use Qualcomm's on 85% or their devices ...page 45)
        - how Qualcomm forced manufacturers to accept patents fees by refusing to supply chip (to Sony or LG for exemple)
        - how they refuse licensing Texas Instruments
        - how they refuse licensing LG if they release chipset
        - how they destroy VIA's CDMA activities
...Read it! Change your mind in front of the facts!
        But I think you won't!
As you won't, what you think means nothing!

Please, if you really tried soc, tell me how Qualcomm sold tons of bad soc like SD615 or SD410 when comptetitors like mt6752 or mt6732 were far far far better.

Qualcomm's main benefits come from licence activities, not from chipset...
        - Qualcomm refuses patents to competitors
        - Phone's manufacturers are forced to buy patents directly to Qualcomm
        - patents fees are to high. Based on device's price instead or chipset's price (you put more memory or a better screen on your device, you pay more fees for cellular patents...WTF?????)
        - Qualcomm can use the money they earn with patents to rebate chipset's price.

In some case, patents' price is higher than chipset's.
Marv Blecker from Qualcomm said it himself (page 133).
        WTF????

If you understand what are SEP and FRAND, you will understand that there's a huge problem with that kind of behavior!

There are other investigations in Europe to proove how Qualcomm used predatory pricing (sold chipset under their price) to kill nvidia's modem activities (Icera)

Do you even know what you said?

Qualcomm is not the only chipset OEM in the world nor a SOC God...

So no, LG does NOT need any licensing nor any sort of agreement from or with Qualcomm IF they were to design their OWN chips from scratch not using any of Qualcomm's designs in the first place...

AnonD-731363, 12 Jun 2019LG good luck dealing with qualcomm. maybe you should make ... moreThey still need a licensing agreement with Qualcomm to be able to make their own chips without getting sued into oblivion - which was the problem from the beginning. Qualcomm would only license their essential-to-the-communication-standard patents if you agreed to buy their SoCs/Modems.

IMO the only effective remedy would be vacating Qualcomm's SEP portfolio, then no one would need a Qualcomm license to make their own chips. I don't think the laws exist to allow that.

Anonymous, 12 Jun 2019Meanwhile... Apple is free with all their patents and tacticsThat's because Apple's patents aren't needed to be FRAND.
Qualcomm's patents are part of the standard which need to be FRAND.
