Marco M, 18 Jun 2019You are free to believe what you want :-)Actually I work in an industry where I have access to a million something people's records, habits, personal preferences, all kinds of info. (online market research panels)
And getting granular information about anonymised respondents is easy. However, if someone were to ask for their own data about them, it would take weeks, probably a couple months to gather everything and compile it in a database, even though all the data is on our servers. That's because users are not profiled, as instead we ask questions and we know how many people answer them favourably or not. We don't have user profiles where we store all their answers to all the questions they are asked.

That's how data collection works. And all it tells you is that google (facebook, and amazon) build user profiles (digital personas) of the people that use their products/services and they always have all the data clustered and readily accessible. And Apple needs to compile all of this, on demand. It would cost them more money and resources to manage user profiles, which could only be used in marketing purposes, for the advertising business. Which Apple is not part of.

Samsung was just to dis notchy phones because they were disciplined enough not to produce one, despite the pressure that loomed from all sides (both from android and Apple camps). But for this Xiaomi?? What reason do they have to justify this?

Marco M, 18 Jun 2019That is very naive of you. If that was true then apple woul... moreWhitewash? Have you heard about data anonymisers? Apple is not in the business of collecting and using personal data to profile their users and sell ads or anything of sorts. Pulling data, matching it with someone's ID, and collaging it in a single database takes time.

To put it simply, Apple doesn't build user profiles and doesn't have someone's info all in one place. That's because whatever they collect, is very granular, anonymised, and doesn't serve them any real purpose of making them money.
So Apple doesn't know about you, as an individual, but if you want to get all your info from them, they can extract it, de-anonymise it, and put it together in a database for you, on demand. Whereas google has you profiled and used as a live asset of the company, always keeping track of you, and all your data is always stored in a single user packet, always available.

Also, Safari doesn't have any google service integrated. The search feature has google set up as the default search engine and you can change it to your favourite one. It's just like having a homepage set up by default - which you will change anyway. Or won't. But the browser itself has no ties with any of those search engines.
The only reason it has google set up as default, is because that's what most people use, and because they can take google's money for that.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2019You can use Apple and their services for that matter (sans ... moreThat is very naive of you. If that was true then apple wouldn't need days to provide you with the data they have on you, it would be instant, like with google. Apple apparently needs to whitewash the data they have before they provide it.

BTW, Safari is an apple app, but it's searches are powered by google by default. No difference from using chrome and pretty much the most important service as far as privacy online on a smartphone goes.

What a stupid company ! Look at Mi 8 with that giant notch, and now look at K20 series with a direct copy of pop-up camera taken from BBK (Vivo, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme).

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2019Yes. The point was to look more into protecting your privac... moreIf you care about privacy then stay away from smartphones, google, microsoft, amazon, netflix and apple to name a few. Just about anything that has to do with american companies, as well as the Internet outside of Tor, and if you do step outside - always use VPN, but you can't use VPN without making an e-mail address, so . . .

Food for thought, requesting all the data google has stored on you takes seconds. Requesting the same from apple takes days, cherrypicking takes long doesn't it? xD

Anyways, for non-tinfoil hat wearing people, just saying NO to any user feedback, and tracking goes a long way. Actually reviewing what an app requires, and denying stuff that don't make any sens helps too.

Phones with pop-up or slide-up camera's are better for privacy than the fixed front facing ones.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2019like apple innovated smartphones, screens, bezelless, bluet... moreApple innovated?

With regards to screens apple took way too long to keep up with the rest. Always had small screen in 4:3 aspect with weak resolution until their "plus" line came along, long after the others.

Bezelless, first introduced by Sharp and no one noticed, made viral and a must by Xiaomi.

For others than iphone users, bluetooth headphones have been a thing for a long, long time. Even my Motorola RIZR Z8 came bundled with bluetooth headphones and The Bourne Identity movie.

HTC and others used finger print readers in smartphones long before iphone, but it was Motorola's implementation in the Atrix that made apple buy their supplier and prevent them, and others from using them. That's not innovation.

Apple's innovation as of late must be the fattest bezels on a alleged bezelless device, as well as the most awful notch for quite a while, until Pixel 3 XL arrived and took that title. look, we're selling a 5.8" device, but it's really only 5.5" due to a massive notch. Innovation! :-P
