The back in the schematics looks a lot like the V40 ThinkQ.

Asymmetrical with a big beard(chin) at the bottom.
This design looks like they try to copy the cheaper brands now.
Soon they probably will use mediatek chipset in G models running Symbian OS.
;)

So the only ones to blame are themselves not the customers that choose other products that they consider worth more for their money.

Kangal, 23 Jun 2019They've been innovators in the field, alongside Sony, for s... moreI've always considered LG very underrated as a smartphone brand. Sure their software might not be the best and their cameras might need a little more work but other than that they're pretty solid. As far as I know they're the only company that throws in a Quad DAC alongside their headphone jacks in their flagship models and the fact they're obviously trying to innovate with Air Gestures and the Dual Display thing is a good sign, the problem is when they develop a technology they don't really stick with it like Motorola does with Moto Mods. If LG wants to keep Air Gestures they'll have to stick with the traditional notch or go back to uniform bezels so they've really designed themselves into a corner with the G8 and V50 which isn't good news since the traditional notch is looking more and more outdated every day. They're most likely going to get rid of Air Gestures entirely if they decide to move forward with their design and introduce a punch hole or teardrop notch with the G9/V60 but I hope they don't, Air Gestures is a pretty convenient feature that still has lots of room for improvement. LG should still consider going the route of Samsung and completely rebuild their UI from the ground up, it looks dated and is a little slow at times.

GAMIR_SFM, 22 Jun 2019I though they were already in coma for a long time. They've been innovators in the field, alongside Sony, for such a long time now.

However, all the attention has been going to Apple, Google, and Samsung... and the scraps to the likes of Xiaomi. Which meant despite their innovations, both Sony and LG rarely got good sales, which meant low/no profits, which means both LG and SONY are shutting down their mobile divisions, which means less competition, which means worse phones at higher prices for consumers. We lose.

I mean, sure both LG and SONY have made their own problems in terms of design, components, software, availability and even developer support. But one of the biggest factors for their downfall was the huge marketing departments of Apple/Samsung, that practically dupe the consumers into a two-party system. It was our fault, the masses, which voted poorly with our wallets for a duo/monopoly. See: Nokia, Blackberry, Microsoft, Palm, Motorola, HTC, ZTE, Meizu, Pantech, Kyocera, Sagem, Siemens, Sharp, Philips, Toshiba etc etc.

LG's calling this a patent! A hole! What a joke!

Dare I say my bum hole is a patent too? Lol.

Restructure your mobile division or you're going down forever.

            Wow thats very young designer.

I don't understand why they're considering a punch-hole when the top bezel seems large enough to fit the front facing camera. Hell, Meizu, one of the the lesser-known Chinese smartphone companies, can fit a 20MP sensor in a very tiny top bezel. LG's done the same thing with the V30/G6 before where they've fit selfie cameras in very small top bezels.

Punch hole, and this much big chin?

Other companies inventing under display camera and here LG having patent for holes which already looks like obsolete tech . No wonder they lost the market

I feel so sorry for LG. From a company that used to be a bold and brave leader in new features, they have become a fading shadow of what they was. What’s the use of the punch hole when the phone still has relatively big bezels? I believe if that becomes a reality, they will sell even much less than the phones they’re selling now.
