Zenmaster, 26 Jun 2019Lol... Sony patented it like 6 or 7 years back. It's Samsun... moreYup. Sony patented the under-screen selfie/front-facing camera back in March 2012, not long after Sony bought all Ericsson's mobile stakeholder in Mobile division. Here's link as evidence back from 7 years ago :

The patent was ahead of the time where differentiation of designs was still a thing between OEMs. Now, with the technology already evolved farther and faster in 7 years difference, I could guess 1-2 years from now, feasibly Sony could implement it on their smartphone in the future. But still, I was impressed enough Oppo did the first execution of it, marking the next important thing in the smartphone industry. Great job, Oppo!

Well, Note 10 has a pinhole, and looks like there arent gonna be any good phones soon without a crappy camera gimmick. Guess i'll have to stick with the note 9. Disappointing...

[deleted post]Alright firstly, Oppo literally did the same thing as Samsung here. "Hey we have the tech, here's how it works". They failed to do it on the S10 because lo and behold, putting a camera under the screen is a heck of a lot harder to do for optimal selfie results with a regular selfie camera. Secondly, we have known about New Infiniti longer than we've known about Oppo equivalent.

[deleted post]all OEMs have Ideas about UD cameras and flying cars, so sit back and relax.

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2019If it is under-screen, why do they put the camera at the bo... moreThe pixels above the camera must be turned off when using the camera, a black stripe on top is tolerable, a black hole or stripe in the middle of the screen is not.

I don't mind using bezel phone like note 9, Xperia 1, Nokia 8 sirocco. But UD camera, pop up Camera just money making tricks.

If the image quality needs algorithms to "repair" it, then its too much wasted effort for a lacklustre result.

Asus 6z's idea is much better, you get all advantages even without a notch... If they could just develop a target to "make it thinner", they can easily achieve best of all worlds.
