vivo announces iQOO 5G ahead of Q3 launch, talks AR and 120W charging

25 June 2019
The iQOO 5G can drive vivo's newly announced AR glasses. Also, after a day connected to a 5G network, its battery was at 70%.

You've assumed that the battery is one large cell like traditional batteries

You've assumed the 120watts is hitting the battery like traditional batteries.

You did this because it's easier to put fast charging in a box of the same old principles than having the curiosity of what this technology might be doing differently

This is given that a lower charge has a lower degradation compare to a higher one. This applies to all rechargeable batteries since from past to present. So yes 120 watt will charge really fast but at the same time will kill the battery really fast with a decent chance of exploding.

Geez! That is a lot of power! 120 watts I don't think that is a safe number to handle, yes you can charge it even higher but... The danger of malfunctioning is great! How long did they run the test for failure? Is Vivo really confident nothing will happen though everyday use as well as rough handling? I don't know that is a dangerous amount of energy on small battery.

Oppo pretty much released the fact that they had tech that wasn't ready (underscreen camera) so as it stands, Chinese companies don't care if it works long term, it just needs to work now

the new technology is breaking the battery into 12 smaller connected batteries each use 10 watts , total 120 watt .. but still EACH 10 watts only.

so a 4000 battery will be inside 12x333 small batteries in parallel. each charged using 10 watts.

This is the secret behind it. it is not 120 watts on the battery as you think. it is 120 watts for 12 batteries each 10 watts only

                    Woowww, 120W.

Others may feel different, but when it comes to safety and longevity of the device, I do believe that this is the better approach.
Still, props is props to where it's due, and here's to hope that this new setup would work out well and set the new standards for fast charging solutions.
Thanks and have a great day! :-))

in my experience on cellphone chargers. the more powerful and fast it charges, the more faster your battery breaks! I rather to use slow charger that more ( the highest 10watts ) I'm ok! I have battery pack anyways to charge it when I needed.

I wonder if the 120W charger is free inside the box.

I would be happy with a free 60W charger. :-)

Anonymous, 25 Jun 2019Could you kindly explain the differences ?!Picture a road and cars driving on it there are two ways to handle the traffic:

                                  1) increasing the voltage means to have each individual car drive FASTER to reduce traffic but faster cars mean more heat (for the smartphone battery)

2)Increasing ampere means adding more LANES but the individual cars Don have to drive any faster

So even though 20v multiplied by 6A , and 6V multiplied by 20A equals to the same 120 watts

They approach is different one generates more heat on the battery the other results in thicker cables

Because batteries are chemical they really don't like heat that's why some praise higher ampere approach

Cars represent the electricity by the way.

Shanti Dope, 25 Jun 2019Wish it was the other way around: 6V/20AI'm no electrician, but for 20A you will need much thicker cables. I couldn't find data about 6V, but for 12V it looks like the recommended conductor thickness is 1.5-2.5mm². That's just the copper core of the cable and you need two! That's going to be one chunky USB cable.

By the way 120W is awesome if we compare some other brand which dont adds even quickcharge into the box with their cellphones and ask more than 1000 for that kind of a phone. And these kind f phones doesnt even support this quickcharging.
