Samsung is planning to launch an outward-folding phone ahead of the Huawei Mate X

27 June 2019
Samsung wants a full line of foldable phones, including vertically-folding clamshells and phones with S Pen support as early as next year.

I'll believe it when I see it. If we've learned anything over the years, it's to not trust Samsung deadlines.

Samsung can be fairly innovative but Apple fans only want to remember them as a copycat.

It's similar to Apple fans thinking Google stole the idea of gesture swipes. Matias Duarte has worked for Google since 2010. He helped create Palm webOS. On Ice Cream Sandwich, closing apps went from vertical like on webOS to horizontal in the recent apps button. The card UI was still there. So what does Apple do? Copy it for their Safari tabs on iOS7 two years later.

Then since iPhone X arrived in November 2017, most people think they invented something that was done 8 years earlier. Called Android Pie a blatant ripoff. Most real phone connoisseurs know the truth. I don't like Samsung copying LG's wide-angle lens but we were all eventually headed there anyway. Just like folks copying dual front speakers from the HTC One M7.

Copying is fine if it's practical for everyone but give credit where credit is due. Apple didn't invent everything. They just made things popular.

[deleted post]This happens when Galaxy fold is unable to made and the competitos style is much more user friendly and also possible to made.
          Samsung lost creditibility again.
          Oh well.

Anonymous, 27 Jun 2019Good its about time they copy the biggest copycats of all t... moreYes, everybody copies each other right now. Like Note 10 looking exactly like P30 Pro with a punch hole, or iPhone and Pixel copying the square camera design from Mate 20 Pro. The new Xiaomi phone has a design of P30 and the color of S10, Samsung's midrange smartphones cannot be distinguished from hundreds of Chinese smartphones recently released to the market, and finally Mate 20 Pro does look like a baby from iPhone XS and Note 9.

I honestly cannot understand why some people are still obsessed with "copying" and "having original design" when every smartphone shares so much design similarities nowadays. If you showed all flagships released last year and this year to people in 2014 and I bet they wouldn't be able to figure out which phones are from which companies.

I really hope that Samsung is really able fix those technical problems plaguing with the flexible screen. If left as is their name & brand will take a major hit, Huawei name can't get any worst so I guess it's total okay for them to sell flawed products.

Mate 30 pro renders look like a S10 Plus

Mate 9 was pretty much a Note 7 from the front

                Everyone copies get over it

[deleted post]The design of the Mate X is very simple. Outward folding screen means a larger bend radius, so fewer issues with the hinge and creasing. The rest is crammed in a very basic rectangular package that could be used in a 'normal' phone. No denying the Mate X is stylish, but the effective design is pretty basic. Anyway, the big manufacturers' normal phone development cycles are ~1.5-2 years, not a few months, so no, there is no way it's a copy.

But when the original fold came, Sammy said their design was better because it protects the screen, keeping it safe inside... Well... that's quite typical, like everything else Sammy changed in their phones.

                        Again

Sammy had enough time with the Mate X to copy most if not all of the design.

That’s what they should have done all along. It’s the far superior design.

Hopefully in the same style, with full thickness for camera sensors.
