Samsung taken to court in Australia for misleading customers about IP rating

The company's ads showed the phone being used in the ocean, even if it was only tested in “fresh water” conditions.

For repeat day by day the corrosive would effect the water-resistant but is takes a very long time of daily usage. Some simple maintenance like contact corrosive ocean water should wash with tap/fresh water and rinse off the corrosive ocean water and wipe it dry it up, it can get the "healthy" water-resistant condition. Better read the user guidelines before use it. Different brand may vary. I know how to use it that's it.

Please feel free to show me one fake add by Huawei.
Even Xiaomi is more humble company than Samsung.

On phonearena they posted the same thing but there they included an Australian ad for Samsung and nowhere does it show people using the phones underwater. They using the phones on the beach yes but not in or underwater. Why not show us these supposed ads. I've regularly used my handsets underwater and in water slides with no issues.

The point is vast majority of people don't know these things, they just hear "water proof" and take it literally, that isn't wrong especially because the marketing is deliberately misleading with footage of the item being used around salt water. That is false advertisement by leading the viewer into a conclusion. Samsung is very cunning here, they think by not verbally or stating in writing the item is salt water proof keeps them in the clear because anything inferred by the viewer is a grey area for marketing as far as Samsung are concerned, but let's not be daft here, Samsung knows exactly what they are doing and what effect they are trying to achieve so they must be taken to task for this.

Still got people trusting on ads? Its pure marketing. Its evil, its wrong, just a plain bussiness. Every company does it, you name it. It just shown its features, with additional illustration. People should know about the phone on real life performance, knowledgable, before falls into it.

When Huawei does it before, everyone panicking, i just puts a quirk smile on my face.

So all Samsung has to do is to take a phone, submerge it in salty water for 30mins and if the phone still works they win.

Here we go again. I hope they lose, even though Samsung is horrible too. Always remember to clean the phone shortly after saltwater exposure! But ok, sadly the last 1d10ts aren't born yet.

Trooper, 04 Jul 2019Everyone knows to read the 'small print', that's what it's ... moreBut isn't that a bit cheating? I mean they did write the disclaimer about water resistant in the ads but it was toooooo tiny to read making people missed that info, as if it was intended to make the blame on the user itself. Should be written in readable font size/write them at the end of the ads with readable font size. I've seen some honest company write the disclaimer at the end of the ads and also making the narrator read it.

Today about 200 sharks reported that their galaxy s10 stopes working just after 30 minutes using the phone:D

pooling topic proposal: how often do you submerge and keep your smartphone under water, fresh or salted, 0.15 to 1m deep for up to 30 minutes? how often do you do this at depths up to 3m?

regarding fresh water vs salt water: is not about submerging (covered by the IP67-68 class) as about corrosion, especially aluminium parts. corrosion is to be expected even when mere splashing your phone and not wiping clean for an while. like hours for anodized or other way protection coated surfaces, which is the case for most phones....

Samsung is not going to lose for the simple fact that the phones are water and dust RESISTANT. There isn't a Goddang phone that is water-PROOF (except for MAYBE the rugged phones from Blackview and Ulefone but even then, why are people trying so hard to use their phone near major bodies of water?) Get a GoPro Hero if you want pictures and videos near water, have a good time at the beach, and let go of the freakin' phone for a few hours.

This has been the case for years. There is a reason why there is a thing like diving watch... Also like other person said, small prints.
