Anonymous, 10 Jul 2019I partially agree with you. The Z1R aren't mass market sound tho. Here's a technical review of the uber-expensive $2,299 Sony Z1R you mentioned about:
        https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/sony-mdr-z1r-sealed-over-ear-headphones-page-2
I certainly agree with the reviewer. When he said he'd rather listen to the $200 Audio Technica ATH M50x than the $2,299 Sony Z1R, something is seriously not right with the sound (and the price). I agree with him. Some people like the highly colored Sony Signature sound (bass and treble boosted). I don't and a lot of audiophiles dont. That's why I own the ATH M50x's predecessor: Audio Technica ATH M50s/LE and it's not simply because it's all I can afford being 'poor'.

Mass market elecronics brands like Sony produce sound that cater to the mass market taste - that highly colored V-shaped frequency response: excessive mid bass and ear piercing trebles with recessed/veiled midrange. Far from the gold standard of flat frequency response from the audible frequency range of 20Hz to 20KHz. You should do more research really if you really do consider Sony loudspeakers and headphones as belonging to the level of the respected audiophile grade brands, the speaker specialist companies that have been spending all their R&D focusing solely on high fidelity music reproduction and nothing else. Try listening to B&W, Audio Technica, Sennheiser, etc. for headphones and B&W, Dynaudio, Revel, Paradigm, etc. for loudspeakers. Measure their frequency with an SPL meter (if you have one) and you'll know why Sony as an audio equipment manufacturer isn't exactly 'up there' with the best of the best. Audio specialization is the key to excellent sound quality.

But I do own a B&W home theater ... moreActing like Sony isn't also one of the best audio brands (up there with the likes of AT, final, Denon, AKG, Fostex, Stax, etc) is pretty ignorant from your part, too, though. Sony's jp-only stuff is killer. Stuff like the M7 IEMs and a few others I can't remember. Plus, they make the Signature series which are incredible as well. Just because they make a lot of things doesn't mean they're not good at them. Sony just happens to make some of the best cameras out there (Alpha), as well as some of the best headphones too (Z1R, M7, etc).

[deleted post]Yes. I'm a 'poor' guy. But I do own a B&W home theater system composed of B&W's 3-way floorstanding speakers and a few wireless earbuds and a wired Audio Technica headphone monitors. If all you know about High fidelity music reproduction is the Sony brand, you better do more research.

Sony WF1000x is one of the worst true wireless earphones
Weak connection, high latency, bad ANC and poor battery life
I hope the new model solves all these problems

$230? For something disposable in 1-2 years? No thanks. On second thought, the Sony name worn on one's ears does look nice and fashionable so there. You know what you are paying for.
