this is due to fierce competition among phone manufacturers. For example samsung is competing with HTC, LG etc. How to win the war? sales, which means you somehow need to find a way to convince customer to buy your phone. Naturally prices is one of the way to convince customer, not to mention when certain parts (processor, gpu just to name a few) are mass produced the price gets cheaper which means manufacturer can lower their phone's price to attract more customer. Just an opinion thou..

Or worn-out batteries which they can't replace themselves?

It seems to me that a lot of the problems with iPhones are deliberately engineered-in by Apple

Buying an iPhone in many cases is a 'Style Statement' rather than a pragmatic or technical-based decision

Of course it will therefore maintain its value while it remains 'fashionable' - the value is all 'perception' and nothing really to do with functionality. One day, however, iPhones will no longer be fashionable...

It's because there is more innovation on the Android side, hence models lose value faster.

This is what i tell ALL my customers instore.
Its better to spend the little extra and get a phone that we be more reliable and less problematic (iPhone, we have around 1-5% of them back) and when you reach the end of your contarct, you can claw back a big chunk of your money spend during the period you had it.
Samsung on the other hand, yes there phones are still reliable (GS2...we have about 20-30% of them back for repair within 6months) but they bring out a flagship handset every 6months, meaning over the average 2year contract providing you buy the top end hadset at the time, with an average value of £400, your handset will be 4th in line come the 2 years is up..lets say it loses 20% of its value every 6 months...it will be worth just £100..this is andriod's downfall. ( and we all know what
iPhone on the other hand with retain its value for faaar longer than any other...better off spending a little more at the beggining and getting more back at the end.

Not only the resale value is high also the purchase value is very high . You can get a driod ranging from 10000 to 40000 Rupees but you have to afford a lot that is 40000 to buy an iphone so apple always sucks

I dont understand the point of this article. Apple control the selling price of their products through contractural agreements with the retailers so 2nd hand price will always stay artificially inflated due to minimal if no decrease in new price. Also a Mercedes SL500 depreciates very fast - does this mean its a crapper car than a Golf? Think not

It's just like with computers: Everyone says that buy your computer in parts, because you get it cheaper and Macs are so freaking expensive (In phones: everyone says buy an Android, iPhone sucks). But still In phones iPhones resale prices is higher as old than Android, and in computers; You buy an really expensive Mac, and you get more back than same specsed computer cost, when you sell it again.

I will disagree with your statistics,i live in the Baltic Region and iphones cost a lot, they do not lose their value. For example you can get an Iphone 4 for 400$(average) Galaxy S2 also 400$ (average),but blackberries literally don't cost anything BB torch(200$ or less) (average).
