Apple pushing the disliked TouchBar on the only Pro MacBook without one. Epic fail!

Touchbar to me is planned obsolescence for Macbooks in general. So if something screws up the touchbar and you are trying to exit any unresponsive programs, you're completely scr**ed. NOTHING beats hardware function keys, period.

honestly, I was expecting apple to release a 12" Macbook no ports at all, just a glass bottom with a wireless charging pad or something like that haha

I still think the Early-2015 MacBook Pro Retina is where they jumped the shark.
The keyboards and battery capacity got worse since then, and not much improvement to the Webcam, screen, or build quality either. And that was after the Mid-2012 MacBook Pro line that could have the RAM, SSD, Battery be easily upgradeable/removable (but these were noticeably thicker, much worse screens and had more ancient chipsets).

The only upgrades they did over the 2015 line was shave a little thickness and weight, and do some upgrades to Bluetooth 5, TB3, and performance upgrades. They could’ve done the upgrades without downgrading everything else, and keep the previous thickness… that would’ve been the best of both worlds.

(PS: Most people prefer the buttons over the TouchBar, few people like screen, so I’m not calling that feature an upgrade either).

The biggest problems with these new laptops starting from 2017 are the soldered SSD and the T2 security chip.

The warranty will eventually expire and the laptop will spoil. Once you cannot boot up at all, the data recovery fees (about USD700) is enough for you to buy a brand new windows laptop.

The T2 security chip will restrict/prevent 3rd party repairs. So you can't send to 3rd party shops for cheaper service. Other laptops use Trusted Platform Module 2 security chip and it has been working well all these years w/o restricting 3rd party repairs.

There is a lawsuit going on in the US for Rights To Repair. Apple and a few others are fighting against it, that means they don't want consumers to have the right to repair the products they buy. In short, pay us the money and you still don't own anything and no rights.

Apple just want to lock you into their walled garden. Buyers please bear these pointers in mind before plunging into Apple's locked down system.

I wonder if touchpad adventure is about productivity boost or just an attempt to trap the user in Apple ecosystem.

Wasn't that touch bar is considered as downgrade? Apple want to reverse it due to bad feedback on next macbook pro?

Isn't 9th gen on the market already, or only the H processor?
