Nintendo announces Switch Lite - a cheaper, handheld version of the original Switch

10 July 2019
Coming this September for gaming on the go.

Okay, it makes sense to remove the kickstand.
It even makes sense to remove the dual-gyros from each JoyCon side.
(but probably should’ve included a single-gyro for the entire handheld like a phone).
But it doesn’t make sense to remove the Left Arrow-Buttons.
Or to remove the HD-Rumble feature.
It doesn’t make sense to remove the IrDA.
And makes zero sense to remove the ability to Dock it.

….Nintendo is basically killing off the Nintendo Switch, and making it as a 3DS successor.
Which probably means we won’t get a Nintendo Switch successor, but they’ll keep the Nintendo Switch Lite alongside a future Home-only Console Box. This hypothetical “GameCone” would probably be around the same performance of a PS4… whilst the PS5 and Xbox V will be moving towards the performance of Gaming PC’s (Ryzen 3700X, RX 5700, 32GB GDDR6, SSD support).

Although everyone literally wants this to be able to connect to a big screen, this is a "lite" edition and a massive price cut from the original one.
Without detachable joycons, you need to buy another "pro" controller and also a switch dock, which eventually will cost the same as the original switch or even more...

thgun2, 10 Jul 2019How can it be called a Switch if it does not connect to a ... moreThe original Switch created a brand name. Although this doesnt really "switch" between handheld and big screen, it uses the same name as it is a "brand". The Switch "Lite" IS another nintendo handheld console.

If they dont call it a switch, that'll be marketed in a whole different way and also it will create a massive confusion as it only played "switch" games. Its Brand & Marketing 101. ¯\_( . __. )_/¯

          Non detachable controller
          Cheaper

I hope it can have be used without dock to connect to TV, but overall a nice lite version of already awesome console

indian, 10 Jul 2019WelpHave you owned portable consoles before?

I have great memories of my experiences with Gameboy advance SP and PSP, those were the times

Sadly Nintendo is not officially available in India and gaming prices are absurd.

Why the hell does this gets launched in India, souch potential, I am a portable gaming fan

I had Gameboy Advance SP from 2006 to 2009 and PSP from 2004 to 11

Sadly Nintendo is not launching this ever in India, even if it gets launched pricing is atrocious bfor the games, fully priced plus taxes to boot along with currency conversion

Was never interested in hooking the Switch up to a TV so this is right up my alley.

thgun2, 10 Jul 2019How can it be called a Switch if it does not connect to a ... moreI agree. If it would have been compatible to connect to the same dock as the Switch, I perhaps would've actually consider picking this up. I guess there goes the price difference and the premium features.

How can it be called a Switch if it does not connect to a tv. To me it's just another nintendo handheld.

At least looks a lot better than gogle stadia for 10 bucks a month without games.

Nintendo is the only innovative company. Only if it connected to a TV it would be a steal.. (for me)

Perhaps this could appeal to those audiences who miss said console.

It won't connect to a TV. Having the same guts of the regular version, it shound't be a problem. This is a substitute to the 3DS, no more than that.
