Well good to hear compared to a ROG phone Nubia red magic cost 3 times less.
First and last edition of a rog phone cost 1800 bucks with all features.

Bring real good 8k, real good 4kp60 and p50. There is not one phone that does this, even though many could do at least great 4k, but are artificially restricted. If you want to be legends, do this.

This is nice and all, but update the software. Optimize it some. Especially the camera. More refined processing, better hdr, and night mode.
Do something wroth the ui or is theme engine. And optimize battery life a little more

I'd rather just get the regular one which hopefully get av little cheaper or get the next one.
Couple of the biggest things I could hope for besides sone optimizing are restraining 3.5mm jack, adding SD slot, and ois.
The next SoC will be that much more beastly and efficient compared to what even the s855 is already.

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2019How is a spare tyre and car boot size comparable to IP rati... moreIf your battery runs out when your outdoors, you can easily swap in a new battery, and continue your day. If you get a flat tyre when you're out, you can easily swap out the tyre and continue your day.

Both are things of utility and practicality. There's no reason to get rid of the spare tyre. There's no reason to get rid of Removable batteries.

You can argue about trying to make a phone waterproof, as being the reason for making a battery sealed, and at least that is a defendable argument. You can also make the argument for getting rid of a spare tyre, as increasing the cargo area whilst making the car lighter (thus more efficient and faster). But if you get rid of a spare tyre, without actually increasing the cargo space or making the car lighter, then you have essentially made a change for the sake of change, but the user is now worse off for it. And similarly, if you sealed in the battery without making the device waterproof, you've done the same thing said above.

It's all about Critical Thinking, something that's in short supply among common-folk.

I wonder if pixel 4 units will have s855 + SoCs?

Just an over overclocked 855, I'd rather keep my current phone and wait for next year's chip instead of this slightly modded chip

...kind of a slap to the face of the consumers whom already bought this device pre-855+ huh?

I guess with this, they can alter things they missed like a better Global ROM, Hybrid Dual SIM, and better night shots. Because other than those, this phone's hardware is absolutely solid for the price tag.

NotyarD, 17 Jul 2019About IP protection, you're half wrong. IPx5 assures prote... moreI disagree.
Seen too many of the older Sony Xperia Z phones die from water damage (actually, it's the ions) despite their early water resistance days. And it also includes the famous Samsung S5 as well.

So it is true to say anything below an IP67 rating, isn't really protected. Well, I should really say IP68 level, but the Samsung S7/iPhone 7/OnePlus 7Pro devices did hold up well.

What I find to be very anti-consumer, is that all these OEMs are sealing the battery shut inside the device without offering anything in return. Proper IP68 protection can be seen as a fair trade/compromise, but you have now 90% of phones getting the batteries sealed and not getting water-proofing. It's like if car manufacturers got rid of the spare tyre, and left the boot-cargo space the same small size.

Kangal, 17 Jul 2019To be honest, 5G isn't necessary for the next 2 years. Wha... moreAbout IP protection, you're half wrong.
IPx5 assures protection against water jets, from any direction. What it guarantees you, for most practical purposes, is that rain should not damage your device, but don't drop it in your sink.
IPx8 assures protection when immersed in water deeper than 1m, but the manufacturer still needs to specify how long exposure it is rated for. It guarantees that your device should not get damaged when (accidentally) immersed in water, as your sink. However, it ain't assured against rain.

Ideal IP protection would be IP66/IP68, as that would cover both situations. (x6 is a class over x5, x8 is a class over x7, x6 and x8 have nothing to do to one another)

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2019The only thing holding this phone back is a lack of OIS and 5gTo be honest, 5G isn't necessary for the next 2 years.
                              What it's lacking is:
                              - a 60Hz option (would be nice to stretch the battery life)
                              - access to bootloader/root (for Custom Roms)
                              - microSD slot (64GB - 256GB is enough for most, but not for media storage)
                              - IP68 waterproofing (current IP65 is not really protective)
                              - availability of the official Removable Dual-JoyCon/GamePad (Right JoyCon is not available)
                              - OIS, FM Radio, IrDa blaster, etc etc

...otherwise, it's a great phone that's even larger than the big Nexus 6P

In terms of completely making a new phone to add this chip to, it makes no sense at this stage, as 865 will be out in a few months time and by the time a "new" phone is developed for the 855+ chip it'll be a little too late.

We dont ned that, make something new with the new SoC and not keep doing the same cause changing the SoC and not the rest of internals is a shame for brands. give us features...we need features, not a phone wich can give 5000 more point on antutu with same all around specs as last phone.
