Weekly poll: is the Xiaomi Mi A3 worth €250?

21 July 2019
That's the same price as the Mi A2 last year, but with an upgraded camera, larger battery, more base storage and a few other changes.

It's missing this record in the poll:

- i'm waiting for the real Mi A3 specced as the CC9 but with LTE European bands

Nxt.Gen.Hum, 22 Jul 2019Does it worth it upgrade from Mi A1 to Mi A3? The looks of ... more720p is not that bad considering the other features that came back that were omitted from the A2. I would say that in Android One offers, the nearest competition would be Motorola One Vision (Higher Price, near to base Mi9T) and Motorola One Power (Lower price, weaker SoC and camera, Bigger battery). Nokia is out because their price per offered spec is rather high. People only compare this phone based on the price of the China version but try looking at all the Android One offers and their prices and you'll know that the price is just right atleast here in Asia.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2019Of course it's a way to cutting cost just like 720p pentile... moreAll phones use cases even if they have ones with plastic backing. Speaking of thermals, plastic frame and rear + plastic case is the worst. It's a double-whammy of insulation. Having a metal frame on the other hand would only have the case as insulation.

The way thermals work for from CPU -> metal midplate -> metal frame -> removable case -> environment. On a phone with plastic frame, the thermals were constricted up to the midplate as plastic is a good insulation. On the other hand, the removable case can easily be get rid of easily if the user wants to.

The lack of features like wireless charging and NFC does not lessen the value of having metal + glass phone, the choice for those omission is only inherent for its target price points.

If you think that metal + glass (Gorilla glass) rear is a step back from metallic unibody, then having a plastic one is a huge step-back on a rather premium price range. Think about the price-range of what you are comparing with.

in Saudi Arabia and UAE the A3 is 800SAR which is about 190euro... why is there a 60euro hike up for the EU?

I think its worth it. I've been using the Tab3v and it has a 600p 7" screen. 720p on a 6" isn''t gonna bother me at all. Since its AMOLED its even better. Set everything to black theme and better battery life. 1440p on the S6edge was a bit too much although nice. 1080p on the Xperia Z2 was perfect. I don't see the step down from 1080p to 720p as a big downgrade with the AMOLED. Especially with those cameras and the headphone jack.

The major downside is the display resolution.. 720p isn't enough for today.
But i love the amoled display..

When the price start falling below $200, I think some people would reconsider their thought on this mixed bag of tech. Sure they will complaint the low res screen and somewhat weaker SoC, but hey if the prices are slashed to, say the current Mi A2 price (it even sold for as little as US$160-175 brand new, here in Indonesia) they will think it's worth the tradeoffs

All three are roughly the same price, but the Moto looks to offer the most followed by the Samsung A50, and lastly the Xiaomi Mi A3. The Motorola VisionOne has the best design and specs, except it has LCD instead of AMOLED, has a slightly smaller battery, and has a weaker Exynos chipset.

The Samsung A50 has a worse design than the Moto, but it has a AMOLED instead of LCD, and slightly larger battery. But it's also running a worse "One UI" OS instead of AndroidOne and downgrades the camera.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 has even worse design than the A50, it's only better when it comes to the more dependable Camera, Snapdragon processor, and AndroidOne OS. It gains a IrDa blaster, but loses NFC. But it also downgrades the screen to 720p.

The best of both worlds would be to take the Moto's design and specs, but exchange the IPS screen for AMOLED, exchange the Exynos SoC for a Snapdragon 636, bump the battery up slightly to 4,000mAh, and add a IrDa blaster. Sure it's missing a removable battery and IP68, and stronger specs... but for how its designed and the experience it provides, it gets the basics down almost perfect for everybody's day-to-day use.

Does it worth it upgrade from Mi A1 to Mi A3? The looks of the specs are nice but the display screen are a bit letdown due to 720p. Well in the same time I have this mix feeling about the screen, even thou it was letdown but it used Super AMOLED display.

There was pros and cons about the display:
Pros: More battery saving due to 720p and more color vibrant due to AMOLED display.
Cons: The display is not sharp as 1080p.

I know everyone complain about the display and the price. If Xiaomi want to stay at the same price point with better specs, then AMOLED 720p is the right choice due to AMOLED from Samsung are expensive. They can used AMOLED 1080p but the price will go higher, so that will be not their main objective for selling this phone.

Another reason why the phone is expensive than CC9e is that, the phone will get update for 3 generation OS by google it self. For MiUi, Xiaomi always give their OS support update for 1.5 year (most of the time), after that it will no longer update support.

Now back to the main issue, as I just said, I have mix feeling about this phone too. Should I buy or wait a bit more Mi A3 Pro (if the phone exist) or buy other Android One phone or wait for Zenfone Max Pro M3 (the only phone that I like beside than Android One).

szk, 21 Jul 2019720p for 6.1 screen is joke no matter what. For a 150 dolla... moreWhen you start to compare phones then be sure you compare it with Android One on them. As this is Android One phone and all your Kirin and what not will not come with Android One. Probably wont have features like AMOLED screen and under display fps too. But most likely will cost more and thats cause you get less features.

If you want to compare these P Smart and what not then compare them with Redmi Note 7 or Pro version as that dont have Android One. Android One is one element that makes the phone cost more so they needed to cut down the cost on somewhere. And dont compare this with even Samsung A series as these are all only made out of plastic so basically over priced junk with poor build quality cause all is plastic.

This junk wannabe OVERPRICED. What the heck

1 simple comment - this is CC9e copy - why is it more expensive? It should have been the same price...

I thought it was getting a SD 7XX level chipset? Or is there going to be a "Pro" version? That screen is a major disappointment though - Don't know what they were thinking in a mid-ranger.

If it was not called Xiaomi it could be worth, but having Redmi Note 7 starting at 179euros down to 139-149euros when on sale, then.... Still good choice for small device lovers.

In China, online sites etc.. Xiaomi CC9e (identical phone, but with MIUI) is about 170 euros. On same sites, Global version of that phone (this, Mi A3) is.. Well, same, 170-180 euros. For that price, who knows, but i guesw this phone will be soon 150 euros. Why is 250 euros in Europe? Why Xiaomi have 720p+ screen for 250 euros? Mi9T (6/64) is about 250-260 euros on aliexpress, global version, so between those 2, Mi9T is way better, no notch, better processor, higher resolution (OLED, also), and with Treble it can run stock Android in 5 min.
So yes, Xiaomi Mi A3 not worth 250€, sorry.

Low screen resolution is only downside for this phone, so I think you should see phone in real in stores before making decision.
