It is likely coming with the Isocell Bright GW1 sensor by Samsung.

After few years we will see smartphones with 128MP camera - Snapdragon 1000 or similar - 20000 MAH battery - Android Z - 32GB Ram - 2TB storage etc etc...

Bigger s... moreIsn't that mainly because unlike IMX586, GW1 was used mainly for cheaper entry level smartphones with slower chipset which used less mature image processing? If you compare the 12MP RAW from both sensors, they should produce almost identical results given the same optics.

[deleted post]On the sensor-side of things, nothing is copied. Samsung sells, Chinese companies buy what is being sold.

DroidBoye, 22 Jul 2019Noise will be exagerrated if pixel binning is ignored. Down... moreYou will be surprised. Right now, mid range processor aren't able to handle the processing required for Quad bayer and HDR. That's one of the reasons why these Quad Bayer processors aren't producing much better photos than thode from smaller sensors (lacking Quad Bayer pixels).

The biggest issues with tiny sensors is colour (and other) noise caused by the pixels being too close and lacking any real separation. Having smaller pixels with better separation, and then using a Quad Bayer filter on their pixels ensure that noide is reduced greatly and detail and sharpness are also substantially improved. One has to zoom in on these 12MP pictures a little, from a Quad Bayer sensor to notice these. But it is definitely there.

The algorithms ate also improving on combining multi frame HDR and Quad Bayer downressing (similar yonhaving large pixels). If both these can be improved, the photo quality will improve even further.

Hello Life, 22 Jul 2019Now that sammy is taking its isocell department seriously..... moreThis 64MP sensor is GW1. They're released/announced together with GM1. It's not new, they might even share similar characteristics but if Sony would release a new sensor for competition, they can release it later just so to wreck another ISOCELL.

AnonD-706668, 22 Jul 2019Did you try it ?Try searching the difference between Pixel-binning, quad Bayer filter, and downsampling. Downsampling is not identical to the previous two.

Now that sammy is taking its isocell department seriously.. Sony is in tight spot.. Sony simply can't afford to go in toe to toe with Samsung, no matter the department.

                              Reality (usable): 16MP

                              Uses Quad-Bayer filter.
                              Bigger sensor size than IMX586.
Quality yet to be proven. We should remember that GM1 was wrecked by IMX586 due to poor pixel translation.

Nevertheless, an innovation on smartphone camera sensor.

The camera should take 16 MP photos by default at all times. The 64MP images will be too large and noisy for normal use.
