It's a pity I chose DEFY instead of Xperia Neo. It is my last Motorola phone.

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2012No one else has come any further with their 2.3 devices, an... moreWrong. HTC and Samusng have both given dates within the next 6-8 weeks for upgrades.Motorola cannot even manage Q2. Some devices are only not being upgraded based on their location. The Atrix shipped with Froyo in April 2011. The Samsung Galaxy S2 that shipped the same month came with Ginegrbread from the outset and never had Froyo on it at all. Motorola are always behind the curve.

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2012Unfortunately Motorola have a well established track record... moreNo one else has come any further with their 2.3 devices, and Motorola is usually ahead of HTC, LG, SE and Samsung when they first provide new versions.

Everyone seems to think their manufacturer is the slowest one. Truth is, they're all slow and picky too.

Karate Obachi, 16 Feb 2012Just in time for Jelly Bean lolUnfortunately Motorola have a well established track record of being miles behind everyone else. Hence why I will not even entertain one of their devices. They were still selling devices with Froyo well after HTC and Samsung were selling equivalent models with Gingerbread and Motorola could not even manage to provide updates within any sensible timescale, if at all. This is just history repeating itself, sad to say.

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2012Seems like just about no one is upgrading their single-core... moreI really just don't get this. If we were told we could not have local admin. permissions to a £500 PC and could only upgrade or change the O/S with the permission of the manufacturer and that if we do the warranty will be invalidated there would be World War 3.5. Yet when the equivalent is done by mobile manufacturers and most people, even those who understand the significance, happily accept it. Why!!!!???

If I buy a phone I expect the hardware to be supported full stop! If I overclock it in software and damage it then fair enough, bill me, but as a paying customer I think I am entitled to do my own software upgrade sand not get penalised by the manufacturer and even less the operator, especially if the operator did not provide me with the phone. Can you imagine the reaction if Dell told users you cannot upgrade your own PC you just bought with a 3 year extended warranty from XP or Vista to 7 and if you do we will not honour your warranty and furthermore we will do everything possible to prevent you from being able to do it? They would be lucky if they could give their PC's away.

well done motorola! you did it again this time with ICS in selective upgrading across different regions for the same handset instead of taking the global approach.
other vendors are wise to do it globally for selected handsets. my LG Optimus Black is getting an ICS update even though late into the year.
motorola makes quite quality phones but sadly if motorola doesn't wise up, my current Atrix handset(not getting upgrading because i am in the Asia Pacific region whereas the US is getting an upgrade??? what utter nonsense this is) will be the last from moto and Samsung, Sony Mobile, HTC you can look forward to getting a new android customer.

[deleted post]SE has to, as their phones are way below par. Something has to give them an edge. Btw, how much sense does it make that they will upgrade the weaker low-end models first, then a few months later the top models?

I'd take a Motorola, HTC or LG running gingerbread over a SE with ICS any day.

AnonD-5950, 16 Feb 2012U missed the point here. The only 2 year old phone that s... moreI know. My opininon is simply that one should expect a close to two-year old top model should recieve the newest, not just any, but the ones who just might have the HW to handle it. Especially since so many countries sell phones on 2-year contracts. Luckily illegal here, maximum is 12 months, but not elsewhere.
