Huawei says the Mate X is still not ready for market

27 July 2019
The team is committed to quality before anything else and apparently Samsung's plans are not a major consideration.

I will probably get downvoted, but no one can deny that this won't become mainstream until apple adopts it, which is probably years away.

The thing about apple is they take their time and release a polished product. They may not be the first but they release the best. They don't incorporate a technology until its mature enough.

GAMIRSFM, 27 Jul 2019Soo... Huawei is also failing, fanboys will don't like this... moreCan you spot the difference between failing and making it perfect to meet quality assurance to the customer? on the first place it has been not released yet. so go back to your cave.

Now you have a giant phone slap on your face. 5 years from now, you will have this similar form fold in your hand.

Anonymous, 28 Jul 2019Not a Huawei fan but this looks a hell of a lot nicer than ... moreToo bad your wish it will failed didn't come true. It's still released in September.

First generation of products will always have problems.
In my opinion those foldable devices might be useful, when the tablet part will have good screen proportions. 4:3 might be good for productivity, but not for media consumption, where most of the content is either 16:9 or even 21:9. But for a tablet part of foldables to have 16:9 screen proportion you would need a double fold, to be considered a smartphone after folding.
But then the thickness would become a real problem. Right now all foldable phones are more than 10 mm thick, closer to 15 mm actually. Add another 5 mm and you have an old school Nokia brick in your pocket.
I don't want to carry a brick in my pocket. Modern day 6.4" devices are already too big for me. So I'd like to watch the progress, but I'll pass on them, even without considering the price.

Just admit. Folding phones is a pointless gimmick that 99% of people don't care about. Especially if they're going to be so fragile. Phones have already gotten too fragile since metal was inexplicably replaced by glass
