cojo, 17 Feb 2012Shame on Google, you just lost a customer. When is Windows... moreIn all fariness MS are doing a similar thing by porting Windows to ARM. Having said that, Windows Phone 8 does seem like a viable alternative to Android and will certainly give Apple something to think about. That is provided MS don't have too much of a mountain to climb now. I am sure Apple can take them to court for this, that and the other every other week just to kick a man when his down.

I don't think they will use sweet foods anymore as the O/S since they will be getting older. Sweet is not good for health. They might use a person's name or an event.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2012Wrong? What is?Just about everything you wrote. ICS is the next generation for both Gingerbread and Honeycomb alike and anything previous to them. Jellybean is not for PC's. That is the role of Chrome O/S, as oppsoed to the Chrome Internet Browser. Jellybean is the next generation after ICS by which time there should be, in a perfect world, only ICS for both tablets and phones. That is why there is talk of dual booting as Chrome O/S, the desktop O/S, is for one option and Jellybean for the other. The stupidity of this is that the fragmenatation that ICS is supposed to address by being the same upgrade for both Honeycomb and Gingerbread is now being brought back by having devices dual boot either a desktop O/S (Chrome O/S) or Jellybean (for tablets or phones but not PC's). Does that make it clearer?
I suspect that in the fullness of time, maybe in 2 or 3 years we may see Chrome start to replace Jellybean and that PC, tablets and mobiles may all well run Chrome and Jellybean etc. will all disappear but that is a way off yet and is just speculation at this point in time.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2012Jelly bean is an upgrade from Honeycomb, NOT ICS. Don't peo... moreWrong. Chrome is a desktop O/S (to further complicate matters they have a Internet browser with the same name) and Jellybean is the next generation of Android for mobiles and tablets devices alike. As such Chrome O/S on a phone is the equivalent of running Windows x86 on a Windows device rather than Windows Phone. On the other hand ICS is an upgrade from both Gingerbread and Honeycomb by virtue of being a later O/S. It is equivalent to windows 7 being an upgrade from both XP and Vista. Hence why it is meant to combat fragmentation as there will be one common platform to both tablets and phones. Jellybean is then the next version after ICS of the then supposedly no longer fragmented phone\tablets devices. Thus why to then throw Chrome O/S in to the mix as an O/S in a dual boot configuration is viewed by many (myself included) as stupidity in the extreme.

Jelly bean is an upgrade from Honeycomb, NOT ICS. Don't people get this? It's going to be designed for tablets and PCs, not smartphones.
Let me just reiterate - Jelly bean is for tablets and PCs.
Get it? I hope some of you do.

KRM_DOTCOM, 17 Feb 2012iOS/WP is like a soldier out of the academy completely know... moreI've no problem with customers being test subjects as long as they want to be lab rats; i.e. for developer builds.
But the real problem with Android is that the damn thing is touted "FREE! FREE!" ...
...and a majority of the stupid customer base is like, "Yay, its free!" without even knowing what that means.
The only FREE is for manufacturers who are free to try any sort of good or crappy UI and end up holding the release of the OS in the process.
I don't care about HTC Sense, TimeScape and the dozen other launchers out there.
I want the latest, and I want it before it becomes not latest anymore!

OMG!!!WTF!!!
It is better if I heard this after 6 months!
Hey Google there is no doubt you're the giant in any department where you put your hand! But Don't misused your right to tourchor the Android lovers by releasing
New O/S every 6 months and Manufacturer said that 'Sorry for inconvenience at the moment you're phone no more support the latest O/S officially" e.g Samsung Galaxy S! Even millions of people happily waiting for ICS for their smartphone and You're providing New O/S and make the newly bought FlagShip phone OutDated! What a shame! If you are doing the with PC O/S then it is very good like Linux release new O/S every 6 months generally but please it's mobile phone don't do that with it!

Its a shame to see such a well started OS fall into the trap of update update update... To a point where you are updating to v5 when 50% or more of your consumers are still on v3. (as an example) Froyo was the "tablet and Smartphone unifier... Ginger Bread was to close the gap more and bring in a "unified" experience where you could sync between devices, HoneyComb, that was purley Tablet. Motorola Xoom, Acer Iconica and Asus.
Now, everytime they release a version people like Cyanogen are the ones who allow for the updates to be felt early. Devs are what keep android going. Without them, every phone you bought would be outdates in 3 months with update after update.
They should really look to take from the books of Windows or iOS. Update once, delta package a few bug fixes for 12 months, and do a major release with a major phone once a year or 2 years. THEN people will WANT the new stuff because they have had to wait so long.
Its what keeps apple at the top of the game. Release small updates bit by bit, then BAM slam out a top notch phone with a brand new OS in line with a brand new IPAD and a brand new OS for mac. You might not like the idea, but Mac Marketing is doing something right if they have 1 (yes only 1) phone. The iPhone. And it outsells EVERY brand out there combined.

KRM_DOTCOM, 17 Feb 2012oh...ok... good to be clarified.
i think the reason why ... moreWho said these foolishness? Do you know earlier we had gingerbread for smartphones and honeycomb for tablets seperately.
Then google said they are going to unify these both OSes into 1. Named ICS" they were aware about the risks and compatibility issues when switching to this kind of major changes with in that short time unlike lazy MS(1 os for 2 years .lol) However ICS plays the roll of universal os!
Jelly Bean would be its perfect successor ,a clean version and it
Will be Like huge victory gained by most wanted OS Gingerbread in smartphone section!

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2012android is being getting ruined by the greedy manufacturers... moreI agree. Was just reading a 30-day review of Windows Phone and some of its features excited me. In a similar blog on mashable, there were multiple commentors saying that they had been on android but honestly speaking liked the experience, that most people that hate on Windows Phone mango haven't used on for even three days. I wanted to get an android phone, feature of course, but now shall just wait for windows phone.

TruthSeekr, 17 Feb 2012This news item right here is the single reason I hate andro... moreiOS/WP is like a soldier out of the academy completely knowledgeable but w/out experience in a battlefield.
before another soldier is out, the first one needs to weather whats out there while waiting for his reinforcement to graduate judo.
Android is like a conscripted teenager, put in to battle after little training for survival and after sometime on the battlefield, will be reinforced w/ another conscript w/ a new weapon but again...not fully trained.
Android is making leaps and develops fast but we(consumer) is their main testing area.
kinda bloody, create an OS, put it into action, observe, create a another version base on previous observation, put in to action, observe, create a another version base on previous observation.... so on .
still... android has minimal negatives in their OS, it just gets better on every version. it's still fine as long as updates are given.

This news item right here is the single reason I hate android:
Fragmentation.
In fact that word doesn't even do justice - what this is is taking a big sledgehammer and whamming Android into microscopic little bits; and then sweeping a few specks into different phones!
Why can't they follow iOS (or even WP7!) model and release ONE stable version and get them on devices before moving on to the 'next big thing'.
