40 MP 1/1.5". So Huawei really is in the Nokia Lumia 1020 territory with that pre-official spec, despite the camera is there because of pixel binning technology. However, the RYYB arrangement does worry me a little, not forgetting that horrendous painting-like post-processing image output. Even when taking pic in RAW, the P30 Pro can easily be beaten by the Nokia 9 Pureview.

Leica stuff costs arms and legs. Even small phone lenses would cost too much.

Do you think Huawei would in 3 years learn to design sensors with more tech than Canon, Nikon and Samsung ?
Not even Sony started from zero. Years ago they acuired Minolta.

Hu... moreWow.... You do know that Huawei has a massive imaging department including ex nokia pureview team leaders that work for them.... They also have teams that work closely with leica... The p30 Pro sensor is a ryyb format instead of rygb.... This was designed an co engineered by Huawei and leica and then built by Sony

Huawei design their own sensors in their flagships and Sony make them because thats what they do.... The sensors are Huawei custom designed and Sony built

Sony is the main supplier of camera sensors. Last year they sold almost 1,5 billion sensors just for smartphones.
There are sensors that are available to any company interested. For example the Exmor RS IMX362 that was used by Google Pixel 2, HTC U11, Motorola G5+ and Asus Zenfone 4.
There are sensors that are made exclusively for one client. For example imx260, imx333 and imx345 were made just for Samsung Mobile to be used inside S7, S8 and S9.
Imx300 , imx400 and imx445 belong to Sony Mobile only. Used by Z5, XZ Premium amd Xperia 1.
Same of imx600 and imx607 made just for Huawei to use inside P20 Pro and P30 Pro.
Let's suppose you want to make smartphones. You can sign a deal with Sony Semicon and buy sensors that belong to "public portfolio" ou order exclusive sensor.
Of course that are things they wont give you like Motion Eye type ( Samsung has because they have their own version and pay Sony to make equal to their Isocell) or 1" sensor used by their compact cameras.
