Yeah 27MP like I said 100000 times, despite few keep insisting on saying it can group 9 to do 12MP.

AnonD-454049, 12 Aug 2019And what would be the benefit of doing that?Larger photosensitive area with reduction of demosiacing artifacts associated with atypical CFAs. 0.8μm photosites have significant loss of area to wiring also less isolation. However the tradeoff could be worth it, if they implement stacking properly to effectively reduce shadow noise and artifacts. That's a long way to go though.

This is quite big news as it means that there are going to be modern flagships with the sensor size of Nokia PureView phones.
I see a lot of potential.

A big question now is if it does support full resolution readout (like the Sonys) or is it simply a blown up version of the GM1 which only reads binned to 12MP (the 48MP mode is entirely interpolated from a 12MP signal therefore fake).
1/1.33" is impressive nonetheless and even if output itself is locked to 27MP it's enough resolution already.
However it's all but certain that the Mix4 debuting with this sensor won't carry the 3.5mm jack...

Tick tock Note9 is the King while the Note10 is an incremental flop.

We await the next true King, the Note11 which will shine after 2 generations of wait.

For almost 7 years, Nokia 808/1020 are unmatched in camera quality all because of its big sensors and the largest MP count to date.

Now let's wait for Sony to create an IMX Quad Bayer sensor that has 164MP but it outputs 41MP, just like Nokia 808 PureView with a sensor size as big as that.

If that happens, we're finally back to where smartphone camera peaked until miniaturization happened.
