Huawei's 5G modem is larger and less efficient than Qualcomm's, a teardown reveals

13 August 2019
Qualcomm's and Samsung's 5G chips are superior in almost every way.

Man, GSMArena community has become such a Huawei base that no one is even criticizing for their bad technology. if only these people were more forgiving of other brands.

Well, it only shows that Chinese OEMs can only rely on their government's policies to steal a superior-tech by reverse engineering.

Qualcomm X50 is locked to a single carrier and cannot use other carriers' 5G network. Huawei's Balong 5000 is multi-carrier capable.

Tsito, 13 Aug 2019No one care about 5G or at least till 2021Your comment is irrelevant for this article. The fact is that the modem is inefficient, whether 5G is useful now or not doesn't matter. These Chinese companies are good at copying, but not so good trying to create something new. Huawei will improve the modem once they have stripped other modems down and can copy them effectively.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 20195G is irrelevant at least until 2022, by that time we will ... moredepends. I mean 5G in the UK is fullly fuctioning...just patchy.

Yeah it is going to take years to get full coverage (just like how 4g took a while to get decent coverage)...but probably within a year or two at most, UK would get 80% of population covered by that point (which are mostly concerning large cities)

But - I can hear Huawei working real hard from all the way in China to resolve those issues.

                      Right now, it's utterly useless

Well that explain why the Mate 20 X 5g battery reduced significantly than the original one.
