Samsung cuts LCD production, shifts focus to new QD-OLED displays

We'll likely see QD-OLED debut on Samsung's high-end TV lineup before making its debut on smartphones.

O led - brighteness, energy save.
Lcd - long life lasting , natural colour.

      So after all those years saying QLED is better than OLED, they're still moving to OLED anyway.

        10" rgb oled probably costs more than the whole Tab 5e.

        Same will happen if you compare iphone 6 (2014) against iphone 8 (2017).

        Why would they put on midrange tablet and not on S/Note when RGB oled is way better than Pentile?

        RGB oled has shoter life than Pentile, that is why used on TVs because TVs are indoor.
        No need to push brightness to be seen outside.

I have an A5 2015 with the same DPI and the A5's PenTile is "noticeable" (the display still looks sharp), unlike the tablet which looks like it has proper RGB.

              RGB oled are very expensive, that is why only TVs and professional monitors have.

                  Also the most used apps are browsers and it's pretty rare to see a website that offers dark mode. When image is majority white, oled spends 2x the power LCD uses.

                  No surprise that many phones with worse CPU litography (12nm, 16nm) + LCD + 3600 mAh last more than oled flagships that use 4000+ mAh.

                    I still dont get it! They make OLED to save battery but produce a smartphone with a small battery? Come on! Look at the Asus Zenfone 6 and Honor 20 series! They're half the price of most of the flagships yet still provide better battery backup🙄.

                    They should've made a Qled smartphone.It is on par with OLED interms of contrast and brightness yet offers better durability and longevity at a small price!!!

                    OLED is just a marketing strategy so that you have to change your smartphone and TV every year😂

Since the S10, the display will automatically use the content's color profile, which means always accurate colors. Only pics and videos supported for this auto color
                        PenTile: RGB AMOLEDs exist and they sell them. Their tablets do not use PenTile for example.
                        Blue shift: They improved a lot on that field since the S3 days for example. Problem reduced but not eradicated.
                        Burn-in: Yep that's OLED alright. But covered in warranty (at least where I live).

If you wan... moreSomesung dont make products cheaper they only make materials cheaper for them selves to then sell still over priced and nothing will change to end user on price point. Only Samsung make more profit thanks to making everything in house.

                            Samsung duped a generation with their OLED displays that offers cartoony colors, potential burn-in, blue shifts, and PenTile which offers less pixel density.

                            The only thing I ever liked from OLED is offering true blacks since no light is being emitted. Great for using a black theme to save battery life and for always-on displays to check for notifications. Other than that, I prefer LCD.

                            People should check out a Pixel 3 / 3 XL at Best Buy. About a month ago, I did. The ones for display have their brightness at the highest level all day. After a few months, the whites on the display starts to turn pink.

                            I am not a fan of OLED.

If you wan... moreSince LG owns the Kodak patents for WOLED using white OLEDS, Samsung would never pay them a licensing fee. So they waited until Blue OLEDs had a long enough brightness half life so they could use those with a Red/Green Quantum Dot Color filer instead. Should have better color accuracy and brighter also.

                                Mini led is just 2 months away (TCL 8 series) and then we have twin displays like the Hisense u9e that's virtually equal to OLED in terms of deep blacks, contrast and beating in nits of brightness

                                Isn't LCD just great

                                  Quantum Dots are used to increase colour gamut. That is why even LCD xperia have very high sRGB and DCI-P3 values, higher than oled phones.
