Fairphone 3 is here for people who value sustainability above all else

28 August 2019
It has a modular design for easy repairs, and a price tag that's way higher than what you'd expect given the specs.

harcha, 28 Aug 2019And how are such people going to afford a 450 dollar phone?... moreProblem is, nobody is making smartphones like these as shown by Samsung who now started to seal batteries on their budget trash phones.

Anders, 28 Aug 2019Funny I haven't seen her doing that in China, India or Saud... moreYeah like China would listen to her and definitely not imprison her for her "dissident" speech "threatening" the China economy.

You may not care about the planet or future generations. And you may feel threatened by new ideas and scientific facts that urge us to change the way we live. But this is a major crisis and some fear for their future the past generations have worked so hard to destroy for their own selfish comfort. Don't bash those who care. They're the ones who will live in your mess. If you won't help clean it up, have at least the decency to apologize or just not say anything.

AnonD-558092, 28 Aug 2019She's working against climate change and idle governments. ... moreI was just joking, but please note that all is correlated (for example: more plastic produced for new "normal" phones= more pollution).

I'm sure all those "extinction rebellion" protesters including Emma Thompson will all be getting one of these.

I mean they would be massive virtue signaling hypocrites if they had mass produced environment damaging phones made by billion dollar companies like Apple, Huawei and Samsung

AnonD-558092, 28 Aug 2019She's working against climate change and idle governments. ... moreFunny I haven't seen her doing that in China, India or Saudi Arabia though.
Only Western governments are stupid to listen to her moaning and no concrete solutions.
Let's just all go back to living like it's the stone age

                GRETAphone should be called.

"Gretaphone is great!" should be the motto.

Great device with principles. and it has an added benefit of... being completely Google free (no need to flash some custom ROM and whatnot)!

@gsmarena - when are you going to add it to your database?

I agree, what Fairphone is doing is important. And to be honest, I was expecting far worse specs like MT processor, HD+ resolution and what not. This is a good step to the right direction. Now the only issue here is the price. But I guess that's a fair price to pay for sustainability.

They're not racing for specs and that's for the better. They're racing for human decency in their supply chain. This gives this device a lot of value, ethical value.

                        Amazing.

Oh, only sold in Europe? Dang, I fear it may not have my Canada bands. Certainly hope I'm wrong because this device is a model to follow and I'm only asking to support this.

Has everything one needs, except weirdos that want to play lame games on their phones, or pretend to be photographers with tiny sensors. Everyone should buy only sustainable products, especially when you live in areas where you, your family or your country may be affected by unsustainable devices (like if you are in a conflict zone, or if you are in a country where childrena and adults alike are exploited in mines for metal for phones...). Plus repairs are going to be quick and easy. +1 for durability and long term usage!

(Yet... SD670 or 675 wouldn't have been a bad thing...)

AverageUser, 28 Aug 2019If the price was 300 or even 350 Euros, I'd be pumped, this... moreGo make your own small company, design, manufacture and sell your own phone, then come back and tell me that it's still so easy to sell such a phone at the same prices of other phones - take note, those are made by behemoth companies with considerably more power and resources than you'll ever be able to attain in such a short time span.

I think what Fair phone are doing is very important and interesting.

Whilst the real Amazon is very quickly becoming a wasteland by continuing human stupidity, the virtual reality version is slowly changing the face of the planet in ways that consumers will surely regret in the future.

This phone represents new ideas and a thought process that goes against the grain of the multi national corporations consume (r) everything mentality.

Look, even I am a spec snob and wish that this handset came with at least a Snapdragon 660 and 6 GB of ram but that is clearly only something that the well funded Chinese companies would be able to sustain long term.

I'm going to do my best to support this initiative and pick one up. At the very least I can give it to my son, at best I can help to change the way people think about what would be best for all of us in the long run.

Fairphone team, because I know them a little bit, challenges the market with a suistanable hardware but also software.

The OS inside is optimized and doesn't need powerful hardware to provide a great experience.

So yes this isn't a top device, but it's a really good phone and it's something more valuable than any other marketing arguments like the speed of the chipset and the size of the camera lens...

                                  "built to last"

For this it needs to have at least a better SoC and more RAM.
Fairphone 2 was too low spec as well, after two years my eco-conscious friend couldn't use it anymore as it became too slow or even failing to start apps at all. There are better things to do in life than wait for minutes in vain for an app to load.
It's not that eco if you need to throw it to the bin and get a new one every 2 years.

My 5 years old oneplus one still works fine without any parts being changed.
