Anonymous, 26 Feb 2012Wrong, Android may be free for manufacturer's from Google; ... moreWP marketshare is not shrinking. Check my link: the 0.1% "drop" is well within statistical variability. i.e. it's unreliable and the true number could be anywhere between +0.5% and -0.5% growth, holding roughly stable at 2% market share.

http://www.themobilestats.info/2012/02/22/is-windows-phone-growing-according-to-kantar-worldpanel/

In its first year (Sep 2008-Sep2009) Android managed to capture just 3% market share:

WP7 has been fighting an uphill battle against the image of Windows Mobile, while Android has the ever-popular Google at its back, yet its growth has nearly matched that of Android. With the new cheaper handsets and Tango improvements (such as better MMS and possibly Skype integration), plus the push of Win8 and Windows Live!/Skydrive, WP7 is set to continue growing.

AnonD-4697, 26 Feb 2012The explanation is simple, Android don't charge for the OS,... moreWhile I agree with your points, I should mention that Android is not free: MS charges royalties for every Android handset! Meantime, they are pushing WP7 with the Nokia partnership and (presumably) discounts on WP7 for HTC and the others.

AnonD-4697, 26 Feb 2012The explanation is simple, Android don't charge for the OS,... moreWrong, Android may be free for manufacturer's from Google; however, many manufacturers pay royalty fees to Microsoft due to patent disputes, so in fact Android is not free. Especially when you consider that companies such as HTC and Samsung pay as much as $9-12/device sold to Microsoft that figure adds up, also it is ridiculous to say that the reason why Android makes up for half of the global market share of smart phones sold is due to android being free is laughable. Android is more accepted because not everyone wants to be the same, custom UI is in fact very widely appreciated. XDA user forums makes up for a very very small amount of user base, do you think everyone hates motoblur, TouchWiz, Sense? No, in fact many of the ordinary every day customer really likes it, they couldn't care less if it makes receiving updates slower, as long as their phone works and they can use it they're satisfied. iOS in general crashes more than Android. WP7 sucks, it has all the weak points of iOS and Android combined, closed market, weak hardware. Argue all you want, it's been a year since WP7 launched and market share shrinks on a daily basis even with all the money Microsoft throws in marketing.

AnonD-4697, 26 Feb 2012The explanation is simple, Android don't charge for the OS,... moreEven if android is free to manufacturers its not free to the consumers. More manufactures dont mean more sales. Wp nokia lumia is slightly cheaper dan sgs2. But sgs2 sales r way higher dan dat of da lumia. N if one year doesnt assure u, den w8 till sgs3 is released.

The explanation is simple, Android don't charge for the OS, in fact the manufacturers found they can rely on something that goes for free instead something is paid. However free is not always better, Android suffer from many many hidden problem, Android is fragmented in many brands, has updates problems, even Android isn't compatible between some brands, apps don't work equally on Samsung than HTC or LG or SE....other weak point for Android is the power hungry resources..is an hungry beast that don't perform sweet on any phone at all, you need to restart your phone more frequently than on WP7 or iOS...but again es FREE! hehehehe

Another weak point is the UI, SENSE, TouchWiz....etc etc, that makes the updates even more harder to make.

iOS and WP7 are not fragmented or divided since manufacturers respect the way the OS was made and this assure compatibility...

WP7 is more stable but is a closed ecosystem, but Mango demonstrates WP7 can be better than ever before, manufacturers are starting to make cool phones...and believe on Maicrosoft again..Microsoft knows this game, Android starts to learn one trick or two....

It'll be amusing if this low-end Windows phone appears much smoother beside the SGSIII.

[deleted post]I owned an sgs2 n i didnt face as many prblms as u claim dere r. Maybe it might b wid other brands. Main advantage in android is updates on os. N u cant deny da fact dat sgs2 ruled. N it was da only competetor to iphone. So going by d previous success my safest bet over da lot wud b on sgs3. Well time will tell everything. Just watch out.

If u think ur wp os is bttr dan android den you can explain to the mobile sales analysts exactly y android captured more dan half da smartphone market n y wp only took 17%. As for ios, yes ur ryt its still bttr dan android due to huge app. Market. But android's catchin up fast. N it was formed more dan half a decade later dan ios.

Hawx, 26 Feb 2012In dat case could u plz xplain what do u mean by dis line ?... moreWell tell me exactly which other company primarily makes windows phones other than nokia. If he says wp7(os) n sgs3(smartphone) den wat wud u take it for, htc vs samsung? N moreover its the ram dat matters for a particular os to run n nt da no. of Cores, unless of course if ur nokia's clocked at less dan 600 mhz which thankfully is the lowest clock speed samsung offers on its droids, but i don abt nokia. Cores n clock speeds matter wen it cums to multi taskin n power demanding apps. Which nokia doesnt really hav. Lolz. N u ask me abt pixel density ratio. Easy. Check out ny fone frm nokia n tell me which wp touchscreen fone has ppi less dan 150 which unfortunately is 133 for galaxy y owing to cost reduction. Your dear nokia lumia 610 might hav higher clock speed than 800 mhz in galaxy y which is more dan enough for a droid costing less dan 100 pounds. N if u wanna compare nokia wid samsung in da same range den compare it wid galaxy ace. It will b beaten hands down by ace except for da resolution bit(ppi).
