AverageUser, 30 Aug 2019Samsung is so far from Stock Android, yet it's number 2. ... moreYou actually can compare them when it comes to updates, i mean stock android and samsungs bloat-UI. Samesung should actually be able to release their updates about the same time Nokia does. Or you really think with every update they build another UI arround it? So much for knowlege... Yes their can be more work, testing to be sure the bloatware is working and hit's every corner of the core system, and that all drivers work great without glitches and so on. But at the money samesung has and the army of people that works for them, they should have always been the first in bringing updates. Till date, they didn't wated to, because...money. And i have a fealing they still do not want, pie releases after 12 Months of OS being out into the market, is not quite the heaven.

Apple sucks, 30 Aug 2019Yes, my 540 € Nokia 8 got Pie, no lie, BUT it won't get the... moreWhen.i bought my nokia 8 back in 2017, i knew i will receive 2 years of updates and that's it. Including a maximum of two OS ugrades. Was my first android device so i bought it and i never complained about the fact that they make it now to another year of security updates. Yet, you're here complaining about android 10 even tough you clearly knew what you will get right upfront when you bought it. What would next year be? Complaining about android 11?

Anonymous, 30 Aug 2019They're still very slow, but they're less of a "release and... moreTrue tho, but at least you still get that update.
Unlike other manufacturers who give you one update tops.
Samsung even updated midrange and low end phones, even older ones. That's some good news for Samsung users.

SomebodyOnceToldMe, 30 Aug 2019Truth, It's honestly impressive how many phones by Samsung ... moreAll of the J series phones weren't really good. I mean there are worse phones than Galaxy J6+, but I agree that it's a bad phone. At least it was cheap.

Tom, 31 Aug 2019Nokia 8 isn't flagship though. But yeah, getting Android 10... moreTwo major updates was promised; two major updates it has received. Android 10 update would be nice, but Nokia had delivered their promise. They're no longer indebted.

Spec freaks; It's because of them that the rear camera count is always increasing. There are more midrange phones with rear quad cameras than there are highends with it, go figure. The Pixel, for example, achieves bokeh effect/portrait mode without a dedicated depth camera sensor. None of these phones would, arguably, beat it in blurring performance.

Spec freaks; they are the ones always arguing over antutu scores as if it correlates to real-world performance. A benchmark that could be manipulated and which have some dynamics to it. SD this, SD that; most of them wouldn't be able to tell performance differences between SD712 and SD730, such that if someone told them that a phone had the latter, when it actually had the former, they would accept. Unless they run a benchmark, they wouldn't be able distinguish between the two in real usage.

Could it perhaps be because all their phones are androidone phones? *Thinking emoji*

On another article, he told me he is entitled to his opinion, which he actually is. But opinions are cheap—dime a dozen. GSMA's comment section is dominated by complainers, whiners and crybabies. This is why someone would be agitating over the lack of OIS, IP rating/certification etc on sub $200 dollar phones. Or here making claims to Sony sensor, "why should it be Samsung's?" Everyone has an opinion, but not everyone has an intelligent or valuable opinion. On RN8 Pro comments, someone was complaining about the battery, talking how it should be at 5000 or 5500mAh. If the capacity was up to that, you'd still see someone crying and whining over why it's not up to 6000mAh. A lot of this group of people are here.

Anders, 30 Aug 2019Quote from article "People are keeping their phones longer ... moreThis, why would I buy a $1000 computer that makes phonecalls that lacks an sdcard slot or headphone jack when I can buy from the same company a $150 device with the same battery (4300~4000) same screen minus the double digit number of pixels sitting above the holepunch but the cheaper one has an sdcard, has a headphone jack.
I think its just a brief madness that the market will correct in time as all these attempts to prevent smartphones becoming a commodity fall flat with the majority of consumers.

I am gladly satisfied with my current Nokia 7 Plus; handsome/premium design, simple/smooth OS, mind-blowing camera outputs using Gcam, and low radiation. But this excitement is rather short-lived because I have read issues regarding the faulty charging port, though mine is okay for now. So even if my phone is still 3-months old, I am already looking for a possible substitute (not Nokia anymore) once this phone would fail.

Anders, 30 Aug 2019Quote from article "People are keeping their phones longer ... more"Smartphone companies are run by fools," as usual, you are entitled to your opinion, genius!

And I will always repeat: I'd rather wait a few months than be stuck with newer system riddled with bugs.
I own a Nokia 8. Got update to Pie in December with a giant compass bug, making navigation useless. This bug was fixed in May security update. Luckily there is a way to downgrade to older versions, so I was sitting on Oreo until they fixed most of the errors.
Good thing that I won't be getting Android 10. Considering the quality of the updates made by HMD I'm glad I won't have to juggle with systems just to have everything working.

                                So I'll repeat again.
Quality of the update is much more important than when you get it.

Actually their new android phones aren't nothing more in OS support than other brands' ones. In fact Nokia 8 had a worse OS supporting than Huawei mate 10 pro or any other autumn-2017-flagship phone. :-(
