Four Xiaomi phones will use Samsung's 108 MP camera in the near future

02 September 2019
So far only the Mi Mix 4 was rumored to employ the mammoth sensor, but the Chinese company is really going all in.

Actually mobile company wants to use of dump people brain, a standard portrait picture need 8 mp & a group photo need 12 mp maximum to photo, what you will do with 108 MP cam? where professional camera will not go far? stop stupid competition for MP, improve the sensor quality.

O S, 04 Sep 2019Actually, with current silicon lithography and pixel cell w... moreBut still, the Megapixel has some bearing of importance.
I say this as almost everything is moving digital, so going with 33.2 Megapixels (8K resolution) seems to be the smart move. That way cropping things down by factors to 4K, 2K, and smaller resolutions becomes simpler for digital artists and programs.

So if you took the same sensor size (1/1.2in) with a density of 0.35pi2, you could have a 33.2 Megapixel camera with almost a 1.8um sharpness, after applying the crop factor. That would be more ideal.

PS: While on paper, the Nokia 808 looks most impressive, the Lumia 1020 is overall a better camera. And the Huawei P30 Pro looks even worse, its actually even better. There are somethings that help improve photo accuracy, such as additional details from other sensors, the lens speed, software/algorithm, memory and processing. These intangibles get lost whenever someone reads from a spec-sheet, and they always get exaggerated when spoken from a device owner.

      Rant:
The only way to objectively compare camera quality is to do it in a dark room, with a controlled light direction, colour, intensity, etc. Against objects which have various angles, textures, and colours that don't fade. And compare said photos between phones and a control (an overkill DSLR). Then you can pixel peep, and see clearly where the smartphone camera has its issues and strengths. And lastly, use some sort of computer program which will score the accuracy of the shots to the DSLR, and produce a score. Then compare the DSLR shot to the previous shot by the DSLR to confirm that nothing has changed (at least not beyond error margin). And finally score each shot using that computer; example, if the _InsertExpensiveDSLR_ scores 99% and a Huawei P30 Pro scores 60%, iPhone XS score 56% and OnePlus 7 scores 55% then tell it like it is. But don't do any sponsorship, and don't release the full-details of the test so that OEMs can't trick it, the way companies trick benchmarks or car emissions tests.

But if you always like to do manual setting, then it can be a totally different story altogether. This somehow reminds me of the Nokia 9 PureView.

If Samsung sensor really good. Why Samsung uses Sony sensor for its flagship phone?

So redmi note 9 pro will have a 108 Mpix no doubt and maybe a K20 pro successor Mi Mix or Mi Max and Xiaomi Mi 10 or 10T probbably.

A 1/1.2 inch sensor size works out to 0.3472 inches squared which is just enough.

As soon as you start taking into those factors as well as focusing accuracy, low light performance, video recording capability etc, however, recent top-end phones like iPhone XS still reign supreme.

O S, 03 Sep 2019That would be great, but 164MP at 0.8um pixel or 41MP at 1.... moreI don't think you can fit 164 million pixels into 1/1.2" sensor when they have 0.8µm pixel pitch. Nokia 808's sensor had 40 million 1.4µm pixels, and 1µm pixel is almost half the area, so at this pitch you can fit just right in 80 million pixels into the sensor.

The point wasn't about 808 being successful or a failure. It was about how it still has a sensor that is better than the Samsung 108MP one. The 808 being a failure as you claim it and still having the biggest sensor is just sad for the other companies.

Processor is alright, I definitely welcome new CPU, but computational image processing definitely worries me. To be brutally honest, I still haven't found any phone that can equally match the image processing of the Nokia-Microsoft Lumia to this day. The PureView Lumias are just in a totally different league despite the age.
