Samsung phones, at least the S10 lineup, are just very good all-rounders while Sony skimps out on things for no reason. Personally what kills it for me is the lack of a headphone jack and smaller battery. The Xperia 1 is a very large phone, Sony could've easily fit a 4000mAh battery in it while putting a 3500mAh battery in the Xperia 5. If it had a larger battery and a headphone jack this would've been an instant buy for me

    Get with the time and stop pushing these small batteries in 2019 with premium prices.
    They would sell so much more units if battery was at least 4000mah...
    Good thing there are still hardcore Sony fans out there.

          Xperia 1 and 5 are great quality phones but Sony should price them lower to be more competitive. If Sony mobile wants to be out of the red they should reconsider their pricing strategy.

            I'm waiting for an compact-powerful-single camera-no cutout-metal body phone.. 6.1" is still large. I don't do photography on mobile, so 3 camera is waste. Only occasionally. There is only pixel 3a that suits my requirements. It's display is 5.5" which is still big to use in single hand.

                Shui8, 10 Sep 2019U can go with smaller vanilla P30, only $500 in my country ... moregood suggestion, yes, p30 is cheaper, but the ip53 is significantly lower than xperia 5 ip68, spec wise, very comparable and in some areas, better, such as ram and battery size, i will also need to see how much NM cards though

                  And they wonder why less and less people buy them, basically nothing new, maybe some downgrade on screen and about the same price(Inc used its higher).
                  P30pro is for 600 now, if mate30/pro comes out, it won't be with most of specs half year old. That's why people will go crazy over it. Considering apps, they won't be just Pre-installed, you can install play store and so on so no downsides. From what I know 2x 40mp is just start, but enough to make decision.

Xperia 1 is much better in m... moredepends what your requirement, xperia 1 suits people who like phablet like phones, so i presume you have owned either Z5 premium, XZ Premium, XZ2 Premium and you don't mind the larger screen and 4 k resolution.

                          On the other hand, my last few phones, TX, Z2, XZs, thus, Xperia 1 is a bit too big and i don't need 4k resolution, thus, Xperia 5 is more ideal for me, but i want to see the price, it should be around 20% lower than xperia 1, as I live in HK, the very decent Huawei P30 Pro is around the same price, but with 256gb storage, i might consider to change, the deal breaker is that P30 pro is bigger than p20 pro and zx2 premium, way too big for my usage, thus, if xperia 5 is the right price, around HK$5500 (US$700) as well as some freebies i will definitely buy it as my XZs is reaching it's end of life as main phone, but it will be utlised as secondary phone, ie, remote play for ps4, emulation gaming phone, ldac transmitter, video recorder, etc

                            but calling xperia 5 small screen is nit picking. 6.1 is the new norm and maybe 80-90% smartphone users use that screen size (almost).

                            xperia 1 launched for 950$ and will be 800$ soon and eventually xperia 5 will be 600$ in jan-feb.. so this is not expensive but also a great alternative for one plus 7 who has same price but inferior in many aspects
