Wow this is sad. So nearly a full year after the SD855 launched, they've only just now managed to match it's performance. (And the 865 will be out soon, unless it's called something else)

I think nobody noticed that, Kirin 990 actually has more transistors then any of the current flagship processors.
Number of transistors in Kirin 990 is 10.3 billion > A13 Bionic 8.5 billion > SD 855+ 6-7 billion (approx)

Thus Kirin has more hardware muscle and power efficiency than other top competitors.

This matches SD855+, but will be behind SD865.

Comparing the 855 to 990 is unfair, the SD855 is one generation behind.

r33fd, 13 Sep 2019This is so bad. Snapdragon 865 will demolish this.SD865 phone will be launch 6 month later.. You have to compare the phone at the same launching for example Exynos 9825 on the Note 10 series, Apple A13, and all SD855+ phones. Not the phone that will launch about March on next year. If u compare to next 6 month then u have to compare again with 6 month later again for example on Apple A14 and next Kirin.. Lol.

Don't forget to compare the real speed test on the YouTube and other online video comparison. Benchmark is just 1 thing matter. Other aspect will answer also.

The only improvement made to cpu is memory latency (due to the new system cache).
Not sure how its gpu is going to perform.
That sure is over expensive chip, though. Qualcomm manages to get similar performance with many less transistors

The reason for these higher cores is because they're using a binned 7nm+ chip, and since the 5G version will be higher clocked, we should be expecting almost 4k single core on Geekbench 4.4

But since snapdragon 865 will be using A77, the single core would be 4.2 to 4.4k, which sadly won't be able to keep up with A13 bionic's single core of 5.4k.

The SD 855 is the one that is the same generation, both on 7nm process and use Cortex-A76.

And yes, Adreno has so far been better than Mali. CPU- wise 980 is better than 845 and they are same generation, although Huawei unveils their SoC's later than Qualcomm.

KnightX, 13 Sep 2019Exactly thats a circle of smartphone industry now!but Huawe... moreThe real problem is that Huawei used the same ARM Cortex-A76 clocked higher and Mali G76 with more cores instead of ARM Cortex-A77 and Mali G77, it's not hating. They're clearly at disadvantage.
But we don't know if they're allowed to use ARM Cortex-A77 and Mali G77 due to US trade ban, maybe they'll release a second SoC before 2020 and this Kirin 990 is just competing with SD 855+ and Exynos 9825, who knows.

What people don't understand is that even if the A13 and SD 865 are faster, all these chipsets are running at such incredibly high speeds that you wont notice a single difference. In fact something I like about the Kirin is their endurance and efficiency which I would say surpasses that of the SD

                                      SpiritWolf, 13 Sep 2019And Kirin 1000 will 'demolish' SD 865. So?Not exactly.

                                      In fact, gaming performance wise:
                                      SD835 > Kirin 970
                                      SD845 > Kirin 980
                                      SD855(+) > Kirin 990

SD865 will probably be better than next Kirin as well.

Kirin is always late to the party by 6 months and brings worse performance due to generic cores. Qualcomm uses their own design for the GPU, making it much more efficient.

Apple is a whole year ahead, so no point even comparing.

The last great Kirin was 960. That was the only one that was ahead of its time.

SpiritWolf, 13 Sep 2019And Kirin 1000 will 'demolish' SD 865. So?Exactly thats a circle of smartphone industry now!but Huawei haters can't just live with that
