Had a P9 for almost three years, only changed it because the battery was not lasting long but the P9 produced amazing shots on their back cameras, easily the best ones I've seen from any smartphone I've owned. Video was indeed quite sub-par, but the double camera picture quality was unmatched that year (Until Mate 10) and still holds up against later smartphones. Heavily underrated phone.

Well Huawei have Leica, Nookia have carl Zeiss and apples have 5W charger included in the box with their 2019 lines phones offering them for 800 up to 1600 depending on the vendor you buy at.

I use in present huawei p9 plus, and for the design i dont want to change it, if it has to have the mate 30 specs will be great. And for the shots i used it in vacations and all my mates agreed that i made the best shots with the best quality then.

Posting this comment from Huawei P9. This phone still can be on par with some flagship phone in terms of camera quality.

          He doesn't.
          That's why he feels nostalgia.

I miss 2016 because it was the last year they offered most flagships without a glass back and most still had a headphone jack.

Well today everybody partnering with someone else.
Huawei Have Leica Nokia have Carl Zeis etc.
Apple have TSMC for CPU Samsung and now LG and BOE etc.
But still when comes to charging technology apple is 10 years behind the any other competitor just like always.
Having 4k battery which charges like 10-15% per hour is laughable in almost 2020 era.

I'd love to see follow ups to this discussing how the partnership affected each succeeding P and Mate phone.

Nick Tagataka, 22 Sep 2019Ah, P9, what a nostalgia. I remember when it came out back ... moreI dont really get you here. I also have the Mate 10 Pro and I wish I had the Pixel's camera. The Pixel my brother used to have has better camera than my Mate 10 Pro. Although, my Mate is definitely versatile with great controls on the camera itself, I really wish it can capture photos as great as my brother's Pixel.

Ah, P9, what a nostalgia. I remember when it came out back in 2016 how impressed I was with its image quality from both of its two cameras. Excellent color processing and detail rendition, a dedicated monochrome sensor, very wide dynamic range(at that time) and above average low light performance with very film-like grains at higher ISO. I didn't buy the phone itself but saw hundreds of samples on the internet and hoped I could have one with me, and probably would've done it if I hadn't got a new phone a month before it was released.

Huawei's camera definitely changed a lot since P20 Pro. Mate 10 Pro that I used to own was already showing a sign of change in Huawei's color science and overall direction in image processing, but that phone still felt more like a digital camera than a phone camera and definitely had a Leica "feel" to it. While P20 Pro's camera was great and arguably better than Mate 10 Pro and most other phones released in the same year, it didn't have any of the subtlety that their older phones carried, and it almost felt like Huawei forgot the true meaning of Leica partnership. They then ditched the monochrome lens with Mate 20 Pro, making its phenomenal lens sharpness the only visible proof that Leica spirit lives inside their phones.

Now I have P30 with me and certainly love its cameras, but I still miss my Mate 10 Pro's amazing color processing which I wish I could have on my P30.

Back in the day huawei promised their inohuse slow chipset will catch up with best in business. Nobody cared less. Since 2018 they almost equeled them, 2019 with the 990 they equeled them (between 855 and 855+)
                          That's a promise captured done.
Thats a company doing more than in takes, going above the normal limits and technologies
For me huawei are pioneers and they will proove it with the new better than android OS by the end of 2020. Hope mate40pro will be the 1st high end huawei going 100% android clean. It will be new chapter in smartphone world
Trump will regred big time. Google triple big time. All big manufacturers in smartphone business also.

Panino Manino, 22 Sep 2019I wonder what happened with this partnership. The "color s... moreIts there. Standard, Smooth & Vivid. In early P20 Pro camera software with Master AI on 'standard', they even push people with that 'Leica' cinematic film look (overcontrast, oversaturate, with a tweak of color science) but its not to everyone taste, therefore tone it down on the new EMUI software.

Apparently not every smartphone user got that photography skill, unlike actual camera, so the true separation between standard & that Leica 'smooth' & 'vivid' is the way. I own an actual Leica camera, and what Huawei camera produce are identical in terms of color science & looks. Of course the other most part better on the actual camera itself.

The partnership worked wonderfully for both companies, as they both got acclaim and relevance out of it.

The "color science" seems to be missing since the P20 Pro.
