Apple is not trying to market the iPhone at the smartphone market. It is trying to bring the features of smartphones to the masses.

1) Sure 3G would be nice and Apple has said it plans to upgrade soon when battery life gets better
2) Handwriting recognition? How many people actually need that feature? iPhone is like the iPod in that it is careful not to have every single feature.
3) 5 MP camera? It is not really how many pixels you have but the quality of the lens. It would be nice if the lens was nicer, had a zoom feature, a flash and a quicker snapper. But still, if you want decent pictures, get a real camera, there is no substitute, not even high end Sony Ericcson's.
4) 30GB of storage would be nice, but too expensive in a flash-based device. Why they didn't upgrade the iPhone to 16GB like the iPod Touch though is strange. I am guessing it is because people were complaining about the price to start off with and would complain even more if a more expensive 16GB came along.
5) Corporate email? As I said before I really don't think Apple is aiming at this market. Hopefully business will start moving away from this model anyway, there are a lot more efficient ways.
6) Replaceable battery? To be honest this isn't a problem for me, whenever I get home I just stick it in the dock before I goto bed or whatever. I am very rarely away from AC power for more than 24 hours.
7) Water resistant? Come on! Give me a break. That would be amazing. I personally have found the iPhone the be very durable, I have dropped mine a few times, still looks as good as new apart from a few scuffs to the chrome outline which are barely visible to the eye.
8) Standard charger? That is a bit unfair on the iPhone as well. Most mobile phones use specific chargers and usually for good reason, so they can double up as a data socket. With the Travel Kit you can simply change the plug end and the power brick with automatically change to the right voltage whichever country you are in. Still struggling to see why they recessed the headphone jack though, so I'll give you that one. Although, it does help protect the jack from knocks. To be honest it doesn't really bother me, I just use the standard buds which are good enough for me.
9) GPS would be nice, especially with Google Maps.

Hey people, i have 1.0.2. version and i have forwarding sms and sms delivery report, and many many things that maybe will be added in the new version...just look around in the instaler ...just for your information...download ISMS and you have all the things inside...Cheers

k charlie boy. clearly u cant keep up with the times. the n95 has an accelerometer built inside it, it was just never put to use before. now there are numerous programs out there that utlilize it in way more ways then the iphone can(try googling rotateme, nokmote, ShakerRacer)

Stop talking up Apple like they are a Deity. It is just a company that is significantly over-controlling. They have a problem with allowing their users to modify their devices because it will take away some of their control, and thus not allow them to know exactly who has their device, and what exactly is on it. If they would allow 3rd party modification, and actually put some required features on the phone such as GPS and a decent autofocus camera that can actually take video. These are becoming basic functions for high-end phones. If someone is going to buy a phone for this amount of money they are going to come to expect these features within the next year. And as far as the innovative amount of memory on the phone goes now there are phone hard drives that match the memory of the iPhone, and there are even MicroSD cards that outdo it now. Although it may sound like it, I really have nothing against the iPhone, I just believe that anyone who knows anything about phones and the capabilities of phones in the present day will recognize the iPhone was an obsolete piece of technology months before it came out that is only purchased by the ignorant, the blind apple followers, the unintelligent, and those that can be persuaded by a multi-million dollar marketing campaign.

iPhones can be a good phone, but NEVER the best phone. No matter what, it will always lose to traditional manufacturers like Nokia, SE, Moto. Yes, they did revolutionise the mp3 industry with several generations of ipods....and trying to emulate the success with iPhone. However, people who overlook the features it lacks in traditional phones, are only Apple fans i guess, otherwise, it is for people who want to feel unique. Make heads turns...but that's about it.....Apple need to learn to give users what it wants, rather than trying to "control" the user experience....

To Apple Bashers, the iPhone is gonna sell well when it debuts in all world markets whether u like it or not. It is here to stay.
Industry watchers decried the iPod Shuffle back then as being one the most primitive of mp3 players and it would fail compared to a sea of far capable players, but they were proven wrong. It went on to become the best-selling flash mp3 player in history.
Today, we get people comparing the iPhone with the rest of the phones out there. We are talking about an Icon here. When Apple takes a huge pie from Nokia with more iconic phones, which will in time become a reality, then you bashers will flock over like geese and worship a new leader.

Apple 2.0 must have the following to be a success
1) HSPDA
2) Hardwriting recogonition... finger being the stylus of course
3) 5 MP camera
4) 30 GB storage
5) Corporate e-mail (Blackberry compatable)
6) Replacable battery
7) Water resistant (can drop it in water and no problem ... that would be a great piece of engineering)
8) Standard charger and earphone plugs
9) GPS
and finally if it can incorporate a satellite phone that will make it a killer and redefine the cell standards globally again

abt the tilt feature, the concept already existed since very long.. .
there was a Sony Mp3 player which had this feature.. don't remember the exact model.... but it's been available since a while...
There was a special version of the 3200 with a motion sensor in the casing.. was not exactly the same feature, but the concept was there... the phone used the sensor for "air messaging".. really, very cool feature... and it works...
anyway, it's not a technology competition of who had it first... but iPhone does not deserve to be a "revolution"...

it lacks some of the important features eg.
1.blue tooth file transfure (pic. music)
2.vedio captrue
3.copy and paste text
4.downloading mp3 and pictures and saving them from safari browser. you can only play mp3's not save them..
for a first time phone atempt it is great but more develoment required.

Nokia has been making 'multimedia devices' even BEFORE the invention of the iPhone! Before iPhone, the Nseries/Cybershot & Walkman series were already being sold. That means these mobile phone companies have been making full-featured phones, even if iPhone did not show up. I don't think (and most people will agree) that the iPhone is a threat to Nokia or any other phone manufacturer. It's just junk anyway.

By the time Apple makes 3G-compatible devices, Nokia and other OEMs will be making HSDPA(3.5G!) devices for Asia and Europe. American technology sucks, seriously.
